Wasserboxer-why did the silencer and swingarm swap sides?

Unless you have a gearbox you need a variable pump which isn't a problem. What is a problem is you run the engine at constant revs. Not a problem in its own as you would run it at peek torque but it's unacceptable to punters to have their engines running at constant revs which would be high for say town running. So you end up having to compromise and have a hybrid Variable pump/engine revs. It's been tried before a few times and it has always been dropped in the automotive world. Maybe someday soon with computer control getting better and better. Besides look at the number of complaints just because they dared to use water to cool the engine, how do you think they would react to hydraulic drive!

It would also be easy enough to move the variable ratio pump in steps to minimic a normal gearbox. I believe that's what Fiat did with their Speedgear CVT auto (though that's not a hydraulic drive).

But I do believe manufacturers should lead public opinion. Sadly most of them never do.

I'm also a fan of DI 2-strokes. After all, who would want 150bhp from 800cc without any of the old stinkwheel stroker disadvantages.

The new Rotax beats the 4 stroke alternatives on every count. But it exists only because the US EPA demanded very high (low?) emissions standards for offroad vehicles which 4 strokes couldn't deliver. Most bikes don't need to do this so we are stuck with heavy 4 strokes.

Just pop one of these in a side case. Sorted :D

It so they can sell more panniers, although if I get an ADV I have a cunning plan

Come on then "What's your cunning plan"

My last 2 1200's have been standard GS's but I've had the adventure luggage on them.
One thing that would put me off swapping to the new WC GS is the thought of laying out another £1000+ for alloy luggage, and that's even if it's available ?

So a business opportunity for some gifted fabricater, adapting the old adventure luggage to fit the new bike.
I'd be happy to pay £200 for a professional job.

.......also, as well as sharing the drive train with the K series for commercial reasons perhaps WBM have decided to address FD reliability as well by using a drive train that is AFAIK reliable as well as being designed to take the power of the K bikes? It's unlikely the current FD would have become more reliable handling 125bhp?

Andres

The K12/13 FD is a mirror image of the R12 one, same bearings etc. Failures are not unheard of with the K, but there are far fewer of them around to begin with. Maybe the twins power delivery is a factor?

Will cost you more than that. You need new mounting frames as well never mind the work involved in welding up the slot and cutting the new one in the other side. Alloy luggage won't be avaliable until the GSA. All that said stick your old ones on Ebay. Last time I tried to buy GSA boxes idiots were paying £150 less than new for them so your not going to loose much.

Could easy be the power delivery. The large reverse torque and big power pulses. The reverse torque is sorted with the new slipper clutch. Could also be that the GS range gets loaded with everything including the sink. Really though at the heart is a flawed design using bearings that aren't supported properly. If it is the same inside then it is still going to cause problems.
