Watch out there is a service cheat about!

Don't knock them. We need the 1,000 mile a year riders to provide plenty of mint, low mileage used BMW's in future years. ;)

+1 that's how I got mine:beerjug:

I have put 20K on my 1200 in two years, but only 25K on my K1100RS over 12years so not sure what that says about me. Iblame all four children myself for being too demanding. Nice to meet Sgt Bilco outside Thruxton yesterday.....and I was on the K bike too. The K gets its first valve "check" soon at 32K miles although I prefer the simplicity of doing the GS's every 6K over having to remove the camshafts "if" any buckets need changing on the K.

That's a nice bike Beemerman. :thumb I'm not sure that car on the roundabout thought so when you were turning right though. Looks like they never saw you:eek:

You've just answered your own thread.
As previously stated your bike's got 2 service clocks running.
The last service you had was in Oct 2010 when Balderston's correctly set the date service clock. The mileage clock wouldn't be set as you weren't at 6000mls. So Piddy's are incorrect telling you its due at 9k.
6 weeks & 3k later the mileage element of the service clock's come up.
All the dealer will do is enter the date ,mileage of the last service the bike had and then put in the mileage/date of the service due now.
It will now generate the service reqd for 6k based on what they've imputed.
Its how BM's are now.
Really can't see why it causes so much grief. If previous owner did little mileage and your doing the mileage then at some point the service clocks will be in a short time frame of each other which is what's happened here.
Balderstones get my vote here because they are correct in what they did.

Wrong. 2 service clocks, one is date driven i.e every 12 months. The other is mileage driven 6k miles from the last service. Last service 3200 so Piddys are right next service 9200 or 12 months from the last one.

No apology.

PB

You haven't bothered to tell us exactly what service it had in October 2010 so everything else about cheats, dodgy dealers :blagblah etc :blagblah etc is meaningless :thumb2

Does doing more mileage make you a 'truer' biker, or a better person, or that you're somehow smarter/cleverer/more worthy etc etc etc?

No, I think that accolade goes to those with the loudest exhausts / darkest visors / best matching leathers etc.

Riding a bike beyond your own postcode is so last century, servicing it yourself is bloody neolithic.

Yes, he did at least give a silly wave to say sorry I didn't see you. I really wanted to let the dual fiamms rip but I kept pressing the wrong button because I'm so used to the GS's position now. Fairly ironic when I remember the problems I had finding the horn button when the GS first arrived.:augie

Right -you're wrong. But you obviously know more than me. Instead of bleating on here ,have the bollox to give Balderstones a courtesy call , let them explain to you what they did and them come back on here & apologise to them.

Yep this is true. There are a number of reasons people still use main stealers though, and it's not just to do with warranty. One is that they might not know an indy, or a good indy, and some feel that resale/p/x values will be greater with a main dealer service history.

I just p/x a GS on an 04 plate which was serviced by my guy, most of the BMW dealers were offering silly money, but baldreston offered me £4500 and i got a £500 discount on new bike,( i was looking for about £5000 for mine ) so does a dealer service really count ? ( must admit i did shop around for about 2 months though ):nenau

Ooooh 'ant it suddenly gone quite from certain quarters!! And Balderstones 'ave'nt heard owt so he must be a Piddy's customer now.

Seconds out ... round two :thumb

Some people need to do their homework ;)

I am not a regular contributer to the forum, but am somewhat surprised by some of the tone of this particular thread .......... am I missing the point and it is in fact all good banter? Anyway, point being, some people are good at mechanics, some aren't, some do high mileages, some don't, but either way neither option necessarily makes a person a twat ........ !

And as to the dealer knocking: I get my bike serviced by an independent garage and have no complaint, but whilst visiting the UK a few years ago (I live abroad) I used Ocean in Plymouth - at two and a half years old (the bike, not me) I had a series of problems all happened on one particular holiday, including: an indicator switch gone, broken rear shock, oil leaks at both ends of the engine and requiring a new clutch plate. Despite being outside warranty, and being a foreign bought and registered bike, BMW did the whole lot including labour (total was north of £1250 apparently) for free as a 'good will gesture' when I asked, via Ocean, for a discount. I doubt an independent could have achieved that for you.

All good banter Michael!! Away at moment so bring some in Saturday please. It's a pity some folks choose to air their grievances on here rather than obtain the correct information but then not everyone gets it right me included.

Nobody's suggesting the original OP's a twat it's the way's he's berated one dealer and being given duff gen by another one and chose to have a moan on here.

Has anyone ever heard of a bike packing up by not being "serviced", - really?...

All this 6K/12months stuff seems like a load of bollocks to me. Apart from the obvious oil and filter change, which you can do yourself, you get pretty much fcuk all for your money apart from a load of ticks saying 'checked'. Well, if you can't check yourself that it's got brake fluid and pads and all the electrics work, you shouldn't be riding it anyway! Anything that's checked that they find something wrong with, they'll charge you for anyway - so you're no better off than taking it in when it happens.

Save your money for an adventure somewhere and only take it in when it's got something wrong with it.

As far as the warranty goes, the service as far as I remember does nothing in terms of preventative maintenance on engine covers, gearbox seals, ECU antennas, or fuel pump controllers. I had the engine cover and g/box seals changed outside warranty over 3years old without a dealer service history.
