Depends how long you want to wait, dont think it will be any time soon

Saw a rumour in MCN a while ago, but without word from BMW you can treat that with a pinch of salt. The latest twin cam boxer is really nice and has come on oodles since the first "oilhead" engine in my R1100RS.

But my thinking is that Porsche did the switch to water cooling a while ago, and they still turn out nice enough cars, so the idea isn't threatening - just not something likely to happen soon.

It seems to come up every year. I suspect you'll be waiting some time for a watercooled boxer. I'd imagine they'll only do it if they have to.

Was at a dealer last week and the mention of the LC engine came up. If the rumours true then it should be on the seen sometime in 2012 :mmmm

2011, I heard...................should be announced later this year:thumb

This TwinCam is only a stop gap...............................you can tell that, because they haven't refined and perfected it.............they're having to shim up the cams at dealer level.................

It gives reasonable power............But they need a reliable 130-140hp low emmission engine to chase the Multistrada, SuperTen and KTM planned upgrades

I hope they don't chase power - it's not what the GS is about.

GS is not the only Boxer......................they have a much wider audience to cater for

A watercooled Boxer engine, fitted to a GS would be re-profiled for more torque anyway

Good point. The RT would probably benefit from a bit more poke.

This is what I've heard too. Yam and Ducati have really upped the anti this year. IMHO BMW needs more than a new engine for the GS to retain the crown.:rob

2012, because that’s when Euro IV standard takes place – and after that it will be very difficult to have an air-cooled engine with reasonable performance.

I think there's definitely going to be an announcement this autumn about a new bike and I don't know what else it might be.

I can't imagine the Germans leaving it till the new regs come in to launch it. I'd have thought they'd want to be out of the box next year?

If it is true I'm looking forward to the future water cooled GS. Figure my '06 will be ready to retire in 2016 and by then all the bugs will have been worked out. :thumb

Oooooo, lots more bits to go wrong:hide

:nod

Waiting to buy the first of a new model, particularly one with some big changes?

Waiting to buy a place in BWM's 'road going test bed' programme more like :augie

Give it a year or three for the LC engine to settle down and the first few recalls to have been completed, then maybe think about it.

It's hardly cutting edge, it's a water pump, a radiator and liquid cooled heads ffs not a hydrogen fuel cell.....wonder when that's coming out, I've heard a whisper it's not far off........ or will they release the nuclear powered version first :augie
