Got caught out in a significant flood about a week ago, 12" - 18" of water for the best part of a mile after a water main burst on my way to work.

Didn't miss a beat and post flood did a couple of miles and all was good.8 hours later going home...oh dear... pop pop bang bang etc.

Stripped out plugs and coils, WD40'd it and all good.

Today, 250 miles in heavy rain and.....pop pop bang bang it's back:blast

Never had grief before, will do the strip and WD thing again tomorrow but any clues if there's anywhere else I should be checking? Assume its just water/damp in the coil areas. I can't see any faults in the surface of the coils.

Any constructive advice appreciated.

Roger.

Before stripping anything, try and dry out all the electrical connections visible. Use a hair dryer or similar if possible. WD40 is fine but won't dry submerged connectors.

Include the side stand switch in that......if it's shorting across, it could be acting as if the side stand is up/down/up/down IYSWIM

Bring it into the house for a few days, the poor thing has caught a chill from playing in the water and not getting mothered properly afterwards.

I 'Think' I've found it...

Secondary coil on left hand pot is split open:eek

The surface has sort of burst open and it's full of rust... Quite how I missed it the first time I stripped it down defeats me... perhaps it's being an old git with failing eyesight:rob

£84 and a two day wait for a replacement:blast

Oh well...

Thanks for all the suggestions...

Roger O.
