Recently bought a 2014 GS, BMW tank bag was with the bike, how water-proof are these bags, there is an inner liner for the bag contents but how about the map window ?

Depending on the bag you have, I would say water resistant, not totally waterproof, I actually stick my papers that I need in another plastic bag, to be on the safe side.

The inner part is waterproof, the map pocket is very much not, once damp suffers with condensation for quite a while.

Pull the drawstring up (a bag in a bag) and it will be fine. The map window will let water in and has been said, takes an age to stop misting once the rain has stopped and it's been dried inside.

My comments refer to the experience with the large BMW bag.

Hi all, thanks for feed back, have found a cover from a Oxford bag which with a bit of adjustment will fit over the BMW one, I thought the inner bag would be ok , it was the map pocket I was worried about, even with sat nav you still need a map / notes to glance at. Scotland for 6 days in 2 weeks time I'm sure it will rain for at least 4 of them.
