Watercooled 1200 GS

Think those pics will be the GSA, spoked wheels and large tank? I guess they ran into tuned exhaust length problems looking at the shape of the header. Its far from optimal bending forward like that but they must have gained more from the extra length than they lost from the extra bending. Love the fake lined out crash bars lol. Wonder why they bothered to swap the sides for the swingarm, wheel and exhaust. Obviously a lot more to the new bike than just a new engine although it does look pretty similar the more you look the more tweaks you see. Cant think of any good reason to go to radial brakes either other than fashion.

I have it from a very reliable source that the engine is finished. It could have been available for 2012 but it is the rest of the bike that is lagging behind and the reason we've got to wait for 2013.

I guess BMW will throw some teasers at the press in the New Year to try and spoil sales of other marques and try to keep customers loyal to the marque until 2013. Looking at the dreadful colour schemes they've come up with for GSA's and RT's for next year they need to do something to restore confidence!:augie

I really do not care much for engine changes, but will the FD actually last longer than a chain with this re-design?

Though I suspect the service costs will also go up, and as the "simple" air cooled motor costs about £400 a service in my part of the world, the extra complexity of the new motor is bound to increase on this with longer service times and coolant to change.

Did they use your personality in the HHGTTG for Marvin? :augie

I know they did it to simplify the ridiculously complex twincam valvegear but the top / bottom inlet and exhaust configuration just looks wrong.

I thought the White and Beige was okay :eek
Triple Black Adventure will be available November this year and is likely to have new magna ride constantly adjustable shocks-so my spy tells me :blagblah

Apologies in advance if I'm just being plain thick :blast
Any idea what those silver straps/brackets are that appear to run from the lower engine case to the forks and back up?
Surely that would lock the steering :nenau

My guess is it's there to mimic the shape of the present engine bar set up (as is the tape to mimic the tank bar outline) to throw the eye off the actual shape and detail of the bike, similar thing with the swirly graphic tape, car makers only go to this much trouble when the shape and design is near completion so this may be the almost finished article :nenau

Oops! just noticed the copyright thing in the pic..........

Are we sure it is not coming out next year, there were spy shots of the twin cam in 2009 and it came out in 2010.

I am now getting confused (not difficult I know)

Is the current twin cam (2010 motor) more complex than the new WC one?

And are the older (2004 - 2008) motors actually simpler than the 2010, and if the new WC one is simpler than the twin cam one does that mean it is actually more like the earlier 2004-8 models, or just different.

Can someone put in order of complexity the motors for me as my head is starting to hurt!

They've redesigned the WC heads so that the inlet and exhaust cams are on the same camshafts (unlike the current twincam heads). This is why the inlet and exhausts are on the top and bottom of the heads (the cam drive has to be from the front of the head).

Love the fact that its a pre-production mule and its already got some Touratech "branding" on it.

Great once they suss the watercooling on the boxer motor they might use some common sense and develop a turbo diesel version of it for the GS

I thought it was cunningly disguised so that at first glance on the autobahn people would assume its the current 1200, down to the Toura branding.

Mind you, I live near the Triumph factory and you should see the lovely bikes they have been testing through here, including their new shaft drive 1200 Tiger adventure :augie

The bars you can see are a measurement tool to record suspension/fork compression....it'll not be on the road bike. :thumb2

+1:thumb not too bothered about the 'wasserkopf' but I would be interested in a TD GSA aswell but it'll be a Track 800DCI before then!:D

Also that it's a pre-production gaffer tape test version and there are people commenting that they don't like the way it looks :D
