Waterproof boots?

how come most bike boots seem to be of the non waterproof variety? All the smart looking boots seem to lack a waterproof membrane which must cost about £5 to make & the proper waterproof ones look like wellies I`m having to return my Sidi Vertebra boots as they`re chewing up the heel leather & was looking at getting a pair of Black rain boots as the Couriers, smart as they may be, aren`t waterproof, would be massive on my size 12`s and cost a bomb.

Can recommend Sidi Black Rain boots. Waterproof and very comfy although they do wear out quickly due to soft soles and even softer leather. Currently using Daytona Road Star Goretex boots. Very waterproof and comfy enough to wear all day although they cost a bomb. You can get them resoled though.

I'm trying the Sidi Black Rain for the first time.

Prior to this I used to wear normal sports boots (Alpinestars) as I've found them comfortable. Whilst they're not waterproof, a pair of Gortex socks, keep my feet dry !!! That way I got comfort, style and DRY FEET

The added advantage was that you only change the thinfs you wear out.

Expensive - well I guess that's relative but they were about 175 quid (€ 249) . My last boots lasted 5 years and cost about the same so at about 35 quid per year that's like one pair of shoes each year - I can justify them

BMW Savanah boots are totally waterproof.

My Sidi Black Rains were waterproof for 5 years and then gave up a bit. I use them for muddy stuff now and use some Oxtars for road use - again they are 100% waterproof.

or for a cheap solution, keep your non waterproof boots and buy some Seal Skinz waterproof socks from Travel Dri

I`ve got some of those seal skinz & good they are too! Due to the fact my Sidis are eating themselves around the heel area I`m trying to get a credit note from the dealer & put a bit of cash to & get some Daytonas
So I take it these Daytona boots are ok then?

Daytona are really good. Plenty of adjustment for wide/narrow calves and totally waterproof no matter what you throw at them.

They are even pretty comfortable to walk around in when not on the bike although I get hot feet so it's not ideal for me.

When they wear out Daytona will refurbish them for a fraction of the purchase cost so they should last you a good while.

Mine are coming on for two years old and look pretty much like they did after the first two weeks.

Please define "a fraction".

My Daytona Nonstop GTX boots need resoling and new velcro. Daytona's UK importer say that the resoling is £38+VAT. But the velcro could cost between £35 and £70+VAT depending on the amount of labour needed to remove and replace it. So potentially I could be looking for a bill of £85 up to £127 plus £10 shipping to repair a pair of boots that I can buy new from the German site for £145 including shipping.

Surely any cobbler would be able to replace the velcro on the flap or is it the stuff on the main boot?

I had a look at some Non stop GTX today & was very impressed PX a pair of Sidi Vertebra & £45

Hein Gerick Touregs.. way to go..

I just bought a pair of Hein Gerick Touregs..(Typo??)

A very wet bankholiday weekend in scotland and 4 hours on the motorway in very heavy rain and still came home with dry feet.

They are comfy too..

The soles grip pretty good too.. In my opinion these are the way to go if you need a new pair of water proof boots..

Also garenteed for four years.. if you look after them correctly and keep your reicept..

The only problem with that Rocks is that the shop I`m dealing with only does Sidi, Oxtar & Daytona otherwise I`d have considered Hein Gericke
