Waterproof Bottoms

There’s a good thread going here already on waterproof tops. I’m in need of some new waterproof bottoms, and didn’t want to hijack that thread, so…

I fully agree with what is said on the aforementioned thread, about the Scott waterproof jackets. Has anyone here got real-world experience of the Scott waterproof trousers, particularly over leathers? Comments about ease of getting on over boots, etc, would be helpful.

I looked at them and the thing I noticed was how high waisted they were which is probably a good thing

I dont need the trousers as I wear my Rukka Nivala trousers with Mesh jacket ( hence the need for a w/proof jacket ) but should I need trousers as well I think it would be the Scott as the jacket just works

As far as getting them on is concerned, I use the tip (from ML?) - carry a plastic carrier bag, put your booted foot in it and it just slides into the Scotts...

If I was in the market for waterproof trousers, after having the Scott jacket, I would say the Scott ones would be excellent
However, I did want some light weight ones so I bought a pair of the Berghaus Paclite Goretex trousers
The main reason was they zip up each leg to the hip and are a breeze to get on at the side of the road
The zips are 2 way so if it drys and warms you can zip down for ventilation
Definitely waterproof and breathable and they pack down in their own bag to the size of a grapefruit
Used them for over 3 years, still like new
Just make sure you get the right sizing - 1st pair I bought were too long
The prices vary between £80 and £130

The Scott ones are easy enough to get over Textiles, so should be even easier over Leather. The poppers come up quite high and create a good opening to get the boot & leg through pretty easily.

They fit well with the stretch and you'll barely notice you have them over your gear. the High waist is great for preventing and blow-by pushing water under the jacket and gives another windproof layer to hold in some heat/keep out a chilly breeze.

The only thing with the Scott’s is that they are a bit short-legged. If you’ve a 32” or less inside leg they’ll be fine otherwise you need to have highish boots. I’ve a pair with Daytona roadstars and they are just long enough for me with a 33-34” inside leg. Jeans get tucked inside my boots when it’s raining, textiles I just let get a tad damp at the bottoms.

Otherwise they are best waterproofs I’ve had by far in a motorcycle lifetime mostly wearing leathers or jeans. I got my first pair, well borrowed them, after son #2 returned from New Zealand with a pair he was issued with for his job as a postie ( on a postie bike ) in drizzly wet Wellington. He loved them.

+1 for these. They pack up WAY smaller than the Scott ones - like half the size…

Another recommendation for the Pac Lite here.

My wife and I have used them for 5 years and thousands of miles. We both ride through winter. She wears them over Motogirl leggings and I wear mine over Draggin Holeshot jeans all year round.

Neither pair have let a drop in, and we’ve both ridden through numerous torrential downpours, often for 8+ hours.

The full length leg zips make putting them on easy, so no hopping around with one foot stuck.

When in their stuff net I’d say they are about the size of a large orange.

I have never tried the Scott trousers. Like others, I can though definitely recommend the Berghaus Paclite Goretex trousers, for use over textiles and leathers.

Well, thanks all of you who contributed to this thread. I decided to go with the Scotts, and rode over to Guildford today to collect a pair of trousers from Motolegends.

First, I was given a size S to try on, in keeping with the view that the Scott sizing is generous. I’m 34 waist, 32 inseam normally. I was wearing my usual biking boots, and leathers. My booted foot was simply too big to go through either leg. We agreed this was an issue that not even the carrier bag over the boot would solve. Not enough clearance even with the zip full open. Last thing I wanted was a pair of overtrousers that required me to take my boots off first. Been there, done that.

So we switched to M size. The same booted foot breezed through. Once on, I found the overall fit of the trousers perfectly normal. The waist on the trousers is a bit higher than average, but a long way off “fisherman’s waders” territory. They also passed the sitting on the bike test.

Now all I need is some rain. I don’t think I’ll be waiting long!

I have the Scott jacket, which has proved 100% waterproof, however, having bought a pair of Scott trousers I found they let water through the zipped lower leg closure so they are being returned for refund. I appreciate this could be a manufacturing issue and/or a pure one off, but..

If you're in the market for the Scott trousers, follow the advice on the Moto Legends website and seriously consider going for the ladies version of your equivalent size. For reasons unknown the ladies variant has a slightly longer leg length which compensates nicely for the inevitable ride-up when sitting on the bike.
