Also look at Reise Know-How Verlang.

I've recently bought many maps from www.stamfords.co.uk for my Africa trip and all but 2 came on waterproof / tear resistant paper.

Tuffmaps are waterproof and good,
The only problem that I found with them is that they don't follow a logical page to page path. ie when you follow a road that over laps a page--up/down or either side. The pages don't usually follow the usual format (in typical road maps there is an obivous and definate color line to show overlap) which means that if a certain road gos up into the page you may find that it will come in mid way and too the far left/right of the ajoining page. Did my head in when route finding/planning. So much so I ended up drawing a line(overlap line in the adjoining pages as reference points) otherwise it would take ages to find the join of the two pages.
Hope that makes sense :nenau
I now use it as a back up map.
Just my thoughts

Not sure what sort of mapping you're after but OS do them, I use them for laning. They are a bit more bulky but far more practicle to be carrying around in a wet muddy pocket.

Jist a wee thought , what i do with my very large scale o/s maps for trail riding is to buy nikwax map waterproofer n lay them oot on t floor n gie them a good coat both sides (got mine from a blacks camping store) has been effective so far up here in sunny Scotland:augie have not used it on standard maps but i dont see any reason that it would not work just the same:beerjug:

waterproof maps

you could always try clear varnish on a standard paper map.
(please try on a map you dont care about first)

I bought a couple of cheap 2009 road atlas - think they were about £3.95ea - and just remove and laminate the pages I'm going to use. Rounding off the corners lets them slip into the mapcase easily

I usually buy regular maps then have them sealed in Aqua 3

http://www.aqua3.com/services.asp

Had loads done by them in the mid / late 90's and their all still going strong. Well worth it for hard to get maps or maps of remote regions that don't change with new roads etc that often.

Might seem a bit pricey at first but well worth the money in my opinion.

They also sell ready Aqua 3 sealed OS maps

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Terry

I think you mean www.stanfords.co.uk

That's some kind of estate agents place you've got there.

Still thanks for the name as I've never heard of the map place before :aidan
