If anyone is going to know, it will be this group.

I am looking for a lightweight roll-up waterproof top (preferably without a zip) that I can keep in my pannier / backpack and just pull over my jacket when I need it.

Any suggestions /recommendations folks?

A zip is usually better so you don't have to take off your helmet to put it on. And it'll mean the clothing can be a better fit, and won't flap around in the wind.

Plenty of options for Bikers, Cyclists, Mountaineering, Hiking etc. Depends on your budget

These are brilliant and possibly the best

I bought one as a precaution for when I wear my Mesh jacket on trips
Recently in Spain we had a travel day to the ferry in biblical rain on the motorway and it kept me bone dry and not sweaty as it was still hottest despite the rain

Packs up incredibly small in so much as I can get it and the Klim wind shirt and a spare pair of gloves, puncture kit and visor cleaning kit in my Kriega US5

I use an Alpinestars pull over w/p top when riding in leathers (scrunches up into a tiny bag which I keep in the top box) which is fine and very waterproof, but as said above, you have to stop and take your helmet off to get it on. Probably no better and worse than most unbranded types of jacket. Also have a mesh lined zip up one I bought from a camping place with a foldaway hood which fits over my leathers, which has a zip. It's probably a cheaper option than branded motorcycle overjackets.

I agree re the zip....mainly because half the times you're going to need to pull over and put it on, the rain will have started so you will really struggle...
I have one of these, wore it the other week through 4 hours of torrential rain. I got wet around the neck but that was just how bad the rain was (doing 70mph on the autoroute to get home) The actual jacket seemed 99% waterproof. Very impressed.

Zip up is much easier. I take a Richa Rain Vent breathable over jacket when I ride in my Rukka Mesh Airall. Rolls up into a pouch about 750ml. It is plain black and can be used as a casual jacket in the evening. Being breathable, if your main jacket has got wet before you put on the waterproof layer then the moisture can evaporate off. £35 free P&P

Another vote for the Scott Ego waterproofs. Work great, breathable and pack up small. If you get the yellow hi-vz version, then it does double duty as a hi-viz jacket if you are in an EU country where you need to carry one.

Yup, and the hi-viz is handy for dark thunderstorms… as has just passed over me.

Anything without a zip, will be a pain in the arse.

As to the rest? Take your pick from the many out there. My only other tip…. Get one large enough to go over the undergarment comfortably.

+ 1 for theScott Ergo jacket...... works, gone up in price since I got mine but always keeps the rain out and doesn't get hot and sweaty inside
Got a bit of stretch to them

I use a Richa rain flare jacket and it’s very good. Being hi viz silver is also a benefit in poor weather. Top piece of kit.

Something without a zip and large enough to go over a motorcycle jacket (but not your helmet) will probably be called, a cagoule or, at best, a smock. It’ll probably be called, a sail, when you come to wear it on your bike :D

It is tricky to find one without a zip, I guess for a very good reason,

How about something like this?

I use a Gore Cycling Jacket, being tight fisted i thought id try it on the Motorbike, brilliant as its cut really well to cover your rear end and being gortex it works perfect keeping the rain out

These guys above recommending the SCOTT are absolutely spot on look nofurther . I Bought the hi viz yellow one about 8 yrs ago when I was regularly commuting . When new they are incredibly ‘bright‘ however it did get very grubby after a couple of years use but I stuck with it cos it’s so good. I replaced it recently with a black one , then they brought out the olive green which I prefer. It’s not only the fact that it’s breathable, comfortable to wear & waterproof it’s just SO easy to slip on ( its kind of slippy on thE inside) it goes over any textlie jacket so easily that you can use it often as just an extra windproof layer. I also had the Aplinetars slip over the head jacket ( is it the RJ5?) for quite a few years and barely wore it because it was a faff to put on ….sold it on here in the end.

That’s helpful to know. I saw the various Richa Flare products and wondered what they were like. The jacket gets good reviews on SportsBikeShop:

And I see the Richa Vision 2 gloves get a respectable 3-star safety rating in MotoCAP testing – good protection for non-race gloves.

I was on the south coast with no rain gear..... yes i'm an idiot!
needed to ride back to Manchester and it was tipping it down big style.
I went in the first bike shop i could find on google and got their cheapest waterproof over jacket and pants
it was Oxford rainseal paid £25 for each.
Got home and i was dry!!! honestly i was amazed how good it was.

Still keep it in the pannier now, 4 years later.

Well i say dry.... my feet was pissed through, my boots leaked!
i got new boots!

Another for Scott Ergo after advice on here.

This company have the yellow and olive in stock, never used them, but they appear to be based in Hertfordshire and have a UK phone number
They are priced at £79.99
I put one in the basket and it came up as free postage
Maybe ask Motolegends for a 10% price beat ?
