I am sure the info is here somewhere just can't find it!

My Rallye Pro3 is not good on the sleeve fronts having ended up as wet inside as the rainstorm outside on a recent ride home.

The jacket seems to big/ heavy/ cumbersome to stick in a washing machine as some proofing products suggest, is there a good spray on product that anyone could suggest, or any other way of re proofing, can they be sent somewhere [just not BMW please!]

Any help more than appreciated

The rallye pro doesn't have a waterproof exterior, it's a breathable material and won't waterproof well. The lining is waterproof and needs the treatment. Regardless nikwax do a spray on waterproof that works the same as their tech wash. Fabsil is also pretty good.

Well how stupid am I! I didn't know it wasn't waterproof, looks like another jacket hunt is on if the nikwax is no good, is this true of all BM jackets?

No, and it's the same with most brands. Some jackets are designed to have a waterproof shell (outer) and are usually branded as Goretex (or such like),eg. the BMW Streetguard, most if not all Rukka, Dainese Goretex, etc. Others are designed to have a waterproof inner, your Rallye, Dainese's D-Dry range, etc.

Each has it's advantage, in seriously wet/cold conditions it's had to beat the waterproof shell garments, and they do tend to be more expensive. However for summer-use the waterproof liner versions breathe exceptionally well and are likely to have more vented panels.

Why not proof the Rallye anyway, but then for really bad weather rather than trusting your proofing carry a lightweight cycling style waterproof to throw over the top, negating the need to have the liner with you? For a recent trip to Spain I used BMW "Airflow" jacket and trousers which have the water resistance of a worn tea strainer, combined with some hill-walking super-lightweight overtrousers (£15 at Go Outdoors) and my Altura cycling top! I was caught in extremely bad weather a couple of times and found the added shells were both waterproof and warm, and when not in use they took up minimal space in my luggage.

Wash it and paint it with Fabsil or go down the nikwax route although I tried this on an old enduro jacket that was well worn and it still leaked whereas Fabsil worked a treat.
