Even if BMW are serious about their quality control, the "Shit happens" is some times there.
In my experience BMW are quite generous when it comes to customer support. But the decision is based heavily on feed back from the dealer.
A friend of mine had a break-down on his 4 year old 800GS at 60K km, and he got a new engine, no fuzz.
In this case, based on the limited information we are given, I would expect nothing less than a new engine.
