We Really are Struggling in the Peak District.

True, but so do I:D

I have a NP on either side of me (Dales and NY Moors) and within 10 miles each way of home

However there are loads of trails/white roads/UCR's outside the NP boundaries that nobody ever rides/walks/cycles, if you look.

I prefer to 'pony trek' on them rather than be associated with the 'orange racing brigade' who can only seem to ride in the NP's because they can't be bothered to research their own routes and follow someone else:blast

That may be the case in N Yorks but, as I'm sure Mick DB1 will confirm, it isn't in the Peak. Although I ride a KTM that doesn't mean I'm one of 'orange racing brigade' who 'can't be bothered to research their own routes'. The reality is that,as you would know if you rode here regularly, perfectly legal and long established routes are being closed down all too frequently.

I've ridden the Peaks many times over the last 15-20 years and it's not getting better, i'll grant you

You are only getting what happened to us in the Dales, post NERC

We lost quite a bit, so I have to now look outside the NP

Surely there are lanes in Notts/Staffs/Cheshire/Pennines etc that you can ride as well

Not getting into an argument about it, but thinking outside the box could be the key

I think the writing is on the wall for vehicular offroad use in all NPA's, regardless of the historical justification that those routes were used for years - they aren't sustainable for modern vehicle traffic with knobbly tyres and 11" of suspension travel or 2 tonne 4WD V8's....in 2012

NERC gave the NPA's the power, now they are exercising it:blast

There's lots of finger-pointing on this thread about supposed 'other' riders being irresponsible, riding too fast, loud pipes, small plates, yadda yadda yadda.

Your common-or-garden ramblers don't distinguish between:
- relatively noisy or quiet bikes (to our ears)
- KTM or any other make of bike
- 'enduro' or old skool trail bikes
- big plates or small plates
- wannabe racers or old codgers

To them, the bikes are all faceless, noisy, smelly and unwanted. Squabbling within the motorcycling fraternity as to which type of rider is more or less at fault, becauseitcan'tbemeI'magoodboyIam, is utterly pointless. As trail riders, we are just not organised, numerous or passionate enough about the cause to keep the lanes open under the current legislation. Small battles are won here and there, but bit-by-bit the war is being lost.

Sorry, that's not a very positive post but there it is. :(

True

i'm off to join the Ramblers instead:augie

As I have said....................personally I don't think vehicular offroad use in Britain's National Parks is sustainable in the long term, irrespective of whether we think we are being hard done by

Agreed and too be honest I the NP's trails should be closed to motor vehicles.
