Just wondered if anyone here knows what the weather`s like around Millau in early April. I`m heading back from Spain on the 3rd April and thinking of going via the Millau bridge and overnighting in the area assuming the weathers not to harsh.....:thumb2

We went via Millau on our way down to Umbria last April - and as usual whenever we ride through France it's always torrential rain..............:eek

It was raining that hard we were getting hit with the rain twice - once on the way down, and then riding through a wall of water as it bounced back up off the road.

This is just down the road from the bridge (still in Millau) -we stopped for a brew in a bus shelter - and yes he was as miserable as he looks :D:D

It can be a bit hit and miss in April, I have been there in brilliant sunshine and warm air and then again in a pea souper where you couldn't see the screen on your bike. Visability can be different below the bridge than it is from the view stance above the bridge.

you might be treated to a stunning view such as this one

You may still see some snow in the Midi Pyrenees and the Auvergne high up.

Thanks for the weather link Wapping, very useful - and boy he certainly looks like a bear with a soar head Annette..........:thumb

No problemo.

The weather in France in April is much the same as it is here..... different but similar every year.

The truth is, what would you tell a Frenchman who asked what the weather would be like in, say, Cambridge or York in the first two weeks of April? "March winds and April showers" is how the little rhyme goes, is it not? That's about as good a guide as any.

My tip? Look at the weather forecast on the TV or in the back of the local newspapers, most will have a pretty good guide to the day and a reasonable outlook for the next day or so.....

.....or, best of all, look out of the window and keep looking as you ride along ;)

Have fun. :beerjug:

I have been to the bridge when it first opened, came through the gorge, but never got any decent pics or views like that, was that taken from a viewing area or a particular point. Going that way in May this year and would love to get some decent photos this time! Any grid refs would be most helpful! :thumb2

Invest in a helicopter, perhaps?

I suspect the picture you are looking at in this thread came from Associated Presses stock photo library. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?i...ox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&sa=X&um=1

Here are enough photographs to help you get some inspiration going: http://images.google.co.uk/images?q...esult_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBIQsAQwAA

Grid references? Really, just use a bit of imagination. The bridge spans a large valley, so you can work from different angles, across the valley. Get a half decent map. Get onto the country road (not the motorway) that is at the bottom of the bridge. Park up somewhere reasonably close to the bridge and walk up the grassy slopes / fields, until you get yourself to a spot that sets your creative juices flowing. Alternatively, use the same map to see if you can work out some method to do something similar at the top of the valley.

PS Here's the Millau Bridge website: http://www.leviaducdemillau.com/english/tourisme/itineraire-vacances.html

April in Millau region. Could be sunshine, possible rain with snow turning to fog followed by high winds and thunder storms. I've seen glorious 25 degree settled weather and snow at this time of year. I've been in and around the region every easter for the last 8 years, no common theme, although snow on the 17th and 18th April 2005 was the exception.

Didnt say how long he was staying for tho !! :augie

I`m riding back from Benalmadena, near Malaga so I`m literally just travelling over the bridge, overnighting at Issoire, just south of Clemont Ferrand, then heading for Le Havre.
I don`t think I`ll have time to stop for too long, as time (and maybe the weather :D) might be an issue.
