Weathers kinda nice - time to ride!

From a practice session yesterday, for the D2D in August . . .

If it’s anything like it used to be, I’d recommend something lighter than those!
(Friends still marshal regularly)

"Weather kinda fecking hot, actually :p"

Out for a bimble yesterday - usual low traffic loop of Cabrach, Strathdon, Lecht & Grantown.

Due to a rather large wildfire that is still burning strong and heading northwards from the hills, the roads to Forres & Nairn from Grantown are shut - 3rd day now. Yesterday this led to rather a lot of lost camper vans on the B9102, looking for a way to get north.

Cuppa time on the Generals road, no where near the smoke . .

Turned off the B9102 towards Dallas, where the burning heather was rather obvious. This is Pauls windfarm near Ballindalloch . . . many miles from where the fire allegedly started near the A939 Little Dava road

There were tens & tens of these loverly moths flitting about. Seemed to me that they were almost being lured out of the heather by the smoke. Magpie Moths, apparently!

The wind today has come round and is coming from the south, blowing the fire ever closer to some small villages. Some crofts in the hills are already in the line of travel of the fire.

i like the road to the west/north on the moor. a real shame about the fires destroying the habitat. the guys fighting the fires need recognition.

Out the previously closed roads - they opened them up yesterday. Still burning peat out there

UpperTweeddale from the Dreva road yesterday. Only a smirr of rain despite a very threatening outlook.IMG_20250703_141233_079.jpgIMG_20250703_141811_637.jpg

Very low on fuel in the backwaters - just the £1.65/ litre ffs!!

Got my pass out stamped. Quick hotel booking. Bingo! Hit the road on the hottest day (not quite as hot as Euro trip in June). A night in Macduff. (Good old Banff Springs is more expensive without breakfast).

Glen Shee at its best. With another sentimental stop on Devil’s Elbow. Braemar full of bikes heading for a “gathering” in Tomintoul this weekend.

Thanks to tip above I stopped by the Dallachy memorial. 9 planes lost in one night in 1945. Ouch!

A road closure / due to a couple of bikes being parked on the verge by a Bobby and a rider while an ambulance sat nearby - led me to a detour along the seaside through Portgordon, Buckie, Findochty (pronounce that one) till I hit the Spar garage in Banff for a couple of cool beer bottles.

And - my trusty steed rolled over 55K miles along the way.

What a wonderful warm day ride .

220 miles yesterday on our annual Hadrian's Wall ride - A7 to the border, the military road along the wall, north to Bellingham, Kielder and Jeddart (Jedburgh) and then home. A humongous fire on Arthur's Seat acting as a beacon!

A great day out: perfect weather and loads of bikes out.

Here's the guilty parties...IMG_20250810_135808_260.jpg

Great little run yesterday and found some quieter roads. The wasps are really getting bad around Pitlochry and Aberfeldy though.
