Hello -
I need to create a web presence using my Mac but know ab-so-lutely diddly squat about HTML and all that. I've got some web space with my broadband account. Is there WYSIWYG-type package out there which is not too expensive and easy to use to get a basic website up and running?
Any help appreciated!

Not an exact reply to your question, but yes there probably is.

I'd recommend that you download the macromedia suite for the thirty day trial. Buy a book and see how it goes. Then once you are happy / or not find the "crack" file and remove the thirty day test allowing you to continue using Dreamweaver.

I coule er em help you find the crack file, but I am now a modem user in Ireland so I'll be off the board a lot more than before. Google found one for me no problem anyway:D

I like Dreamweaver but I don't find it very intuitive. I'm sure there's an easy guide though.

One way to get going with it is to 'borrow' someones page that you kind of like the look of and use that as a basis to see how Dreamweaver sets things up. Anyhow, thats how I taught myself mainly. You wont need to have much or any HTML knowledge, but you can learn by doing things in design mode and switching to code mode and seeing whats gone on.

I use it on the PC, but a colleague who works with me uses it on the mac and it seems a bit nicer on the mac.

Absoutely the easiest way is to take out a .mac subscription and use the web page tools on there. You can simply upload galleries from iPhoto into preformatted pages with slide shows etc automatically generated. However it is a subscription service and not worth taking out for the web service alone, thought the other tools that come for free and the [email protected] address is kinda cool.

As for using a dedicated web development tool if you use Photoshop or any Adobe software you may find GoLive much easier to work with as Macromedia Dreamweaver will seem very unfamiliar and GoLive integrates smoothly with other Adobe apps and also shares much of the same tools and menu structures. GoLive usualy has a Demo download as well and seem well represented n the p2p groups (as part of the Adobe CS Suite).

Cheers Andy - I'll have a look at GoLive as well - I use InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat all the time at work so an Adobe-stylee interface would be handy.
Please excuse the numpty questions but what are 'p2p' groups and the 'CS' suite? I've seen 'CS' refered to on the Mac store website but don't know what it is
Thanks again :beerjug:
