Just lookin' a wee bit of advice...
I want to replace the original exhaust on my 1150GS with something a little bit more sporty...
I don't want to take the cat off...if possible I would like to buy something that would fit on straight away after i remove the original.....not too good spanner wise........and the handier the better.....
The original exhaust looks shitty and has been through the wars a bit....so thought i could kill two birds with one stone...a newer pipe and a wee bit more sound.............:)
The bike is fitted with Caja Sahel boxes and the associated hardware.........

Sporty?, you'll have to lose the cat - otherwise it woiuld be a pointless change.

See if you can source a Remus with 'Y' piece so at least it sounds more throaty. 'Y' pieces don't cost much - seen them for @ 100.00 on ebay etc.
Losing the cat makes the bike lighter.
Polish up the headers along with the 'y' piece and it should look great.

Where in Ireland are you ? I have two 1150's, one with and one without the cat. If you are in Dublin come over and see and listen.

Try just taking the existing end can off, so you're running straight through then cat then out.
You can tidy this up a lot with a stubby for about 15 Euros, or an offcut from the local 'zorst fitters skip for nothing....It makes a really nice but NOT too loud noise, frees things up a little but not TOO much so you have to mess with settings a lot, and it'll save you a couple of hundred beer tokens

(Honestly, it's what a LOT of peeps have done.....I started off with Y piece and remus, then a second and third remus after bashing the crap out of nearly a grand's worth of cans on rocks offroading.....I finally saw the light and stuck a stubby on (mostly prompted by the desire to have equal sized panniers on the back) and it's what I've done to my newer 1150GSA.

The best bit is, you can try it yourself for free just by whipping off the OEM can and seeing what you think of the noise/feel to it :beerjug:

Many thanks for all the replies........
Gonna fit a stubby....great idea..............and for me the handiest............:D
Will keep you all posted...
Thanks again...

Don't go buying a stubby 'for an 1150GS' at twice the price of a bit of angled pipe.

Measure the OD of the pipe from the Cat (I think offhand it's 52mm) then get on Ebay and look for stainless pipe angles of that size ID :)

LATE EDIT...check that....it may well be 54mm OD from the cat...it's raining outside at the moment and I'm a bit of a woolly woofter so I don't want to get wet to check it ;)

52 rings a bell... but saying that I've just looked at the clamps I used to supply when I knocked out stubby's a few years back... and they are stamped 47-51mm

Standard

After owning a fair few GS's I would say that the standard setup is superior to any after market options. I found in all cases that the midrange power suffered. Sure you lose some weight and the bike looks less cluttered but midrange power and no vibrations are a winner in my book.
Maybe I'm getting old?

Yes, I fitted a full stainless system last year to my car for a deeper sound.
All I can say is: God help your wit.
Driving anywhere distant with a steady drone in your ear.
When I was into car rallying, a lifetime ago, the worst part was driving between stages with no helmet on and the awful exhaust noise giving a constant flat drone.
Myke

remus

my bike as been decat and full remus put on plus ebrom chip and what a change it go;S LIKE HELL ON WHEELS ALL THE BEST BILLYWIZZ:

It's really not that bad Myke ! It's okay at idle and at lower RPM but deepens under load but it's not anti-social.
It's an MX5 so with the roof down and with wind buffeting, the exhaust is the least of the probs !! :D
I do see your point though as some exhausts (usually the cheapo ones) can be irritating.
