Weeping Seal

Just a quick one to ask if anyone has ever had a problem with new seals leaking?
I had to take of my front timing cover to sort out a leak from the bottom where the gasket goo had perished, and decided to have BMW replace the crank seal fitted in the cover. I took the whole cover to them so i knew they would supply the correct one and also got them to fit it into the cover at the same time. After rebuilding the bike, the original leak is fine but i noticed a leak coming from behind the plastic cover! On closer inspection it appears to be coming from the crank seal, nightmare!!!! Is there anything else i can try before having to strip it all down again and replacing the seal yet again????? It's a pain of a job to say the least.

Why take it to the dealer to fit the seal -when the main cause of this seal leaking is the inner seal anyway, which you fit by replacing the cover. So there's no benefit by having a dealer fit it into the case.

No magic or tricks involved = Just be very careful with the inner part of the seal when you fit it - you've just found out how careful you have to be.

You do realise you don't have to remove the cover to replace it, Don't you ??

Hi there Steptoe

Because i had the cover off to fix another leak last time and i'm here in Germany, it was easier to take the whole item in for them to identify the seal.
I didnt really take any notice as to how it fitted, they just fitted it into place when i collected it. However if it goes from the outside in it will save me a pain in the arse job. What is the best way to remove it and fit in the new one?

Picked up new seal yesterday(10euros) fitted and put back together and eureka no leak!!!!!
Thanks for the advice, especially Steptoe, i would have taken the cover off again!!!!!

Buggar, i spoke too soon, went out today and there it was, oil leaking down the front of the case!
