Well having read a lot of threads about the unreliability of the 1200, i suppose it had to happen at some stage, after two and a half years and 22000 miles ive had my first reliability issue:blast

Put the bike away having returned from work and the next morning there was no sign of life, no display illuminating, checked the accesory socket , battery seeme ok.

Ended up calling out BMW emergency assist, unable to get the bike going, battery ok etc, seems to think its either the ignition switch or immobiliser.

Had the bike towed (eventually after 3 vehicles sent none of which had a trailer or mechanic with the ability to recover my bike) to my nearest dealer to get sorted, no doubt i wont get it back till after christmas but hey ho!

What year is your bike?

I thought most would have been sorted by now under recall

Don't think it will be the immobiliser that's at the root of this. TTBOMK that will stop the engine starting but won't affect the clocks lighting up etc. My money would be on the ignition switch.

I will watch the development off this trade :)
I have no idea what it can be the problem :nenau

Well! just had a call from the dealer, cause of the problem was wiring loom chaffed against the frame, they have repaired the said fault (not covered by warranty) charged me £90 which i suppose isnt too bad and ime now back on the road:thumb

I thought that every fault is covered by the warranty if the bike is under warranty :nenau
Sounds like they charged you for one hour of labour:)

Then you sound like a grumpy old fart !
The gentleman was saying that the fault is not covered by the warranty then I thought that the bike is still under warranty !:nenau
There is not point you being critical about me, I know I do not give people the best answer but that is just me .
I will ask TBH to give you the Tossers badge patrol then probably keeps you busy inspecting everybody's post on this forum !

They stated it was on the n/s a short distance from the battery, bike was out of the 2yr warranty and under the extended warranty, which apparantly doesnt cover the loom rubbing on the frame. At least it wasnt too expensive and after 2 and a half years and 22000 miles i cant complain too much.

Well I wouldn't be too thrilled tbh. If you hadn't modified the wiring loom at all then it would imply that the bike wasn't correctly assembled in the first place.

As a point of principle I would be contacting BMW directly for a goodwill gesture. But then I'm a tightwad after all :D
