Long story for you so pull up a chair, Went to try the new WC ADV. in Nice at the weekend and was not smitten at all, just didn't like the look too bulbous and although it was only a tad heavier than my 07 GS it was not filling me with Lust for one and at €19000.00 all options incl. apart from the panniers I needed it to. The other half watched all of this take place and when I asked what she thought " I HATE IT " was the short but to the point reply, time to move on.

On to my second bike the KTM 1190 Adventure r. Spotted a low mileage second hand one advertised by the Honda dealer in Toulon and went for a look.[never seen one in the flesh before]

When I saw it in the showroom I was totally smitten and when the other half finished looking at the ER6n she is fancying and wandered over, " IS THIS THE BIKE" yes "WOW I LOVE IT "
So a quick look around revealed a salesman who wandered over only to confirm that it was sold, sold in fact to the gentleman sitting there pointing to a charming French couple who looked as smug as [actually they were very pleasant]

We had then planned to visit the KTM dealer in Six Four Plage a 10k ride to the coast and so that became Plan B.
They had no used 1190's for sale but the final stock of 2013 models were reduced from €15,000.00 to €12,999.00 including KTM panniers, that works out to £10778.00.
So a test ride was taken and so suitably impressed a decision made and the bike ordered.

Well no actually because I said yes and the owner informed me that the bike was in fact sold and it was the last one available, WTF twice in one day. !

The owner who is utterly charming sensed my distress (No one likes to see a grown man cry) and rang KTM. France who apparently begged one from Austria and it arrives next week the future is truly orange.
Oh and the final price was more as I added a few essential extras.

As a final reason to buy, the power in France is limited to 106ch so following my test ride using 100ch which was "MENTAL" the dealer will release the other 50ch when I collect the bike, can't wait.

Nice one. I think you're gonna love it :)

Amanda and I went through a similar thing towards the end of last year and the KTM won hands down except, sadly, Amanda didn't like the pillion position/comfort :( In the end we've kept the old 1200 as there was nothing about the WC to tempt me to 'move on'

BTW that's a seriously good price you got on the KTM, really good value when you compare it to the price of the GS!

The extra 'grin factor' alone, having gone through all of that, will make 'new bike day' extra special....enjoy :clap

The 1190R is a really nice bike, I only bought mine to tide me over till the new GSA came out but I can't find a reason to part with it, so, it will be staying with me another year and after some longer trips will decide if I feel the same. Will be visiting France next month for a week of exploring, hope the weather will be kind. Enjoy yours :thumb2

Did you actually ride the GSA WC or just look ? I agree the 1190 is a thing of beauty , but the new GSA is a peach to ride . Had mine a week and absolutley love it . It's quick like no previous GSA and is addictive to ride . Just sayin':thumby:

Not long back from the first ride of the year on my 1190. I am really loving this machine and how well it rides. No GS can hold a candle to it. :P

Nothing wrong with how the WC rides and its quick too but it held no appeal in the looks dept. its trying too hard to look like an adventure bike and it felt tame in comparison, i feel respect for the KTM like you would for a wild horse it's untamed and that is what makes the difference in the ride also I love the look of the KTM and that is important to me too. When I rode my 2007 GS home it felt heavy and old-fashioned.

With regard to the price, the second hand one was more money increasing the grin factor.

This is all my opinion only no offence meant it was my choice, :D

If mine is ready before next weekend we are off to Vaison La Romaine for the weekend crossing Mt Ventou in both directions so looking forward to that, if not the GS will be fine.

Purchasing a bike on appearance alone ? I do hope your other half is happy with the 1190r's pillion position

£10778 with panniers is an absolute bargain ........ I'm surprised that Austria had a 2013 model still available when the UK have been punting out 2014 model year bikes for the last 8 weeks. I believe I'm correct in saying that the only difference between the 13 & 14 is the MSC and the gold CZ chain?

We I've had my 1190 a year now and done 10,000 miles ,it's been trouble free apart from the minor niggles nothing major.
Nothing like as bad as the Gs wc ,
It's a great bike with a mega engine I've got the comfort seat and it's very good , the KTM panniers are shite though ,soon got my money back and now how Touratech zegas.
After 6 BMW's it a refreshing change , I was concerned about the chain but no knead only adjusted it three times in 10k and still going strong .

If there is any spelling mistakes or full stops missing I don't give a f....

Just so you don't loose sleep worrying about me,:D I had a test ride and anyone whose ridden one will tell you pretty much the same thing the bike is amazing and It's nice to have a change after 5years on a GS. Also my other half has her own bike so no problem. They even changed the seat halfway as I found the standard seat a little low ( 6ft 4" ) and the comfort seats are heated she loves that. :D
