So 2 and a half years after some knob decided to do a U turn without looking I'm in the market for a new bike.

It looks like it'll polish out, but in reality it was a class B write off. A bit like me really.

Anyway, i took a 1200 WC TE out on Friday and it was so much nicer than the Triumph Explorer I took out after. Which leaves me in a quandary. I'm not really fussed about trick electric suspension - I'm a 2 position kind of guy. Me and me with luggage and am quite happy turning the preload up or down.

So the Enduro model looks like the ticket - add heated grips and the job's a good'un. It saves a grand on a whole pile of stuff I don't want (Tyre pressure, ESA, LED light, chrome exhaust and the GPS prep) I'm going to be doing ~15k a year on it and plan on riding it into the ground so I'm not looking for any resale value.

Oh - and does anyone know if the shocks are the same as they were on the '07 model? As it happened I had a very nice pair of WP shocks being serviced when the accident happened. It'd be nice to be able to fit them on the new bike - shame to have them go to waste.

Sounds a bit like my experience last year when my 1200GS TC got written off and I broke my back into the bargain - thankfully mostly recovered now :)

I picked up a standard WC specking just heated grips and ESA (only cos with my back I wanted to be able to soften off the suspension on the go) which saves loads of cash if you do not want all the bells and whistle on the TE.

99.9% certain that your old shocks will not fit the new bike. Best flogging them on here and putting them towards a new set if you do not like the standard suspension on the WC which is by all accounts better than the earlier Hex heads.

Enjoy the new bike whichever one you decide to go for :thumb

Well I've ridden a pile of 600's and the nc750x. Out of those the NC is the run away winner with DCT. A system 6 helmet fits in that fuel tank space! Very very practical commuter bike. I think I'd last 6 months before getting bored out of my tiny mind.

The triumph explorer just isn't as nice as a GS. In every department except service intervals. But once out of warranty the wc valves don't look too hard to do and everything else (not looked into brake fluid change yet) is easy.

However a GS is rather pricy - and as the fully loaded one has everything (don't really want the sat Nav left grip or the elec suspension but I'll live) at a substantial discount it seems to be the one to get. And the dealers have tons of stock - 2 week lead times at this time of year???

But with luggage thats 15k for a new one.

Don't save for a rainy day or is it pouring?

Personally, I consider Dynamic ESA to be pretty much a must-have on a new GS. With the ability to adjust the preload / ride height on the button and the damping rate automatically adjusting itself 100 times a second, the road holding, handling and ride quality are all stunning. If I'd bought a base model GS and then ridden a new TE, I think I'd be somewhat disappointed.

Should I point out I know of at least one dealership that is currently offering them at just over £41K with two free panniers and cylinder head guards.....? :augie
