I used the gs for work last week, and thinking how well it was going after 180,000 we came to an abrupt halt in the middle of a roundabout. After much puffing ans wheezing....from me, I managed to get it into neutral and start pushing, just what I needed to wake me up.

Later fondling found the culprit, a shattered gearbox bearing. I have removed all bearings but the output shaft, as these are sealed and feel fine, or more to the point have not got the tools to remove them. Is it alright to rebuild using them, also do I have to worry about re shimming, if I put it together as I have taken it apart it seems nothing should change.

Any advice is welcome, unless its about diet or global warming.

A better proposition would be to contact mikeyboy or steptoe for a rebuild.

Shimming using a jig/heating/cooling and tolerences all need to be done correctly to ensure it lasts.

Which bike is it?

180k is a respectable mileage.:beerjug:

The shafts needed to be measured and shimmed individually before bring fitted in the case

I cant help it will have a go at rebuilding it myself. Ive had the bestie all it life so I better get to know it better! I will replace the clutch, are these non slip ones worth their money? Or stick with the sachs unit. Its ridden nearly every day.

Don't tell me that's the first clutch :bow

No it will be its 3rd clutch, first at 60k, the second one has done much better, not so many wheelies due to shrinking testicles of age!

You say they're fine, it only take a bit of oil and it all goes wrong!
