Well thats my favourite dealer dropped down a couple of notches lol 😂

They're both mileage limited items and have been since day dot.

However ... If you'd have had the breakdown/recovery feature on your policy, the bike would have been recovered to your chosen dealer and you could then have been having a discussion with them directly as to what would almost certainly have turned into a goodwill claim, rather than being told by the non supplying dealer "it's not warranty"

Do you know what the mileage limits are - especially for the exhaust flap?

Come on then, enlighten us. BMW extended warranty and assist, recover to dealer and they are on the clock to fix, so what is wrong with that? I look after a fleet of bikes and have used BMW recovery and assist, even having the bike picked up from a garage location, then returned when sorted.

Buy a new bike. It brakes down in Austria less than 3 months later. After 3 days I have to find out what’s going on as BMW recovery ( which is Allianz) have no idea, and even less interest. as can be seen from my original post, not even new bikes get moved up the queue in Europe. They are not on the clock.

I was advised by the recovery guy who picked up my bike that BMW assist was the best way to get recovered. He said because BMW assist are involved the receiving dealer has 48hrs to report back to the mothership so it leapfrogs the bikes in for service etc. Not sure if anyone can confirm or deny this.
My recovery guy (BMW Assist) this week couldn't get a dealer to look at the bike until August. Not impressive for a premium brand bike under warranty. Fortunately the issue was resolved by the roadside after a chat with a dealer's service manager.

Well I broke down in Germany with a new RT and they recovered it, as soon as it arrived at the dealer, they did the work and if it couldn't have been fixed, they would have given me a replacement vehicle and recover the bike back to the UK. So not sure why Austria is different. But if T&Cs are different in Europe I never encountered it.

BMW warranty, It doesn’t cover the flapper valve either and shortly due to mileage the suspension
My flapper valve was covered on warranty. In fact they changed whole header pipe. I still can’t believe they had to do it.

Perhaps you were just lucky ( or me unlucky ) but it was a disgrace.

Same for me, and several others I know.

However, perhaps the extended warranty (or the warranty with a ‘premium used’ bike) is different to the original 3year ‘new bike’ warranty.

I'm sure you're right, but for any goodwill claim to stand a chance, the bike really needs to be back with the selling dealer :thumby:

I get the feeling that its now all about sales revenue and much less about customer service compared to how it once was.

Sad really as I bought into the BMW brand years ago precisely because the after sales service was very good.

I don’t even have a flapper valve. Am I missing out? :augie

Not sure if things have changed, but I bought a 1200RT privately and the flapper valve failed and my local dealer replaced under good will, although I had to make a contribution, which was a good thing, as it failed again 2 years later and was replaced again because the replacement headers had a 2 year warranty because I put my hand in my pocket.

Well away with the lads last weekend in Ludlow when my bike played up, limp home mode activated second to last day of a 5 night break. No problems i thought extended warranty and call Bahnstomers (my dealer) to expect recovery,Told them the problem and that I was due to head out to Berlin in July for the Mototorrad weekend and I was told they could not look at it before August 🤬🤬 Bit disappointed to say the least (No good having extended warranty if the dealer cannot help in your hour of need )
Oh well looked at Local Dealers to where we were staying and Rybrook Motorrad comes up gave them a call couldn’t have been more helpful. called Carol Nash recovery who recovered my bike to them without issue. Next day bike all fixed with new throttle as the ride bye wire was the problem, unfortunately the warranty does not cover that so £307 later, but I cannot fault the help I got from Rybrook and at least my bike is fixed and Ii could ride home after a great weekend in the borders with the lads

Not warranty related, but i did a web requets/enquiry about a service at the end of June in mid May. Left it a couple of weeks to call them (Bahnstormers). To confirm it - nope. August was the nearest time.
I called North Oxford Motorrad and they had plenty of availability, so it was booked in and will be heading there at the end of the month.

I think there might be a reason why NOM have plenty of service slots free ...

Always insist on making a contribution (however small) as this way the warranty on the replaced part remains with you rather than BMW :thumby:

Radio 4's Sliced Bread programme featured outdoor clothing including base layers - they ask if "wonder products" are "best thing since sliced bread" or bullshit. Goretex, merino & sports base layers discussed.
