went to balance throttles and this happened.....

GS911 hooked up, vacuum gauge thing plugged in, went through the process to check the balance, decided it could be better so adjusted right hand cable slightly, closed it all down and on a restart this happens......

revs to about 3,000rpm pauses momentarily before dropping to about 1500rpm then hunting between 1500 and 2,000 rpm

(I didn't touch the throttle at all in that video)

twisting the throttle gently while it is hunting causes the revs to rise to about 4,000rpm where it will hold for a few seconds before dropping back to the hunting revs even through the throttle is in the same position. It will rev to higher than 4,000 but is generally all over the place.

Finally I tried do the idle actuator reset using the GS911 and went through the balance procedure again, when the GS911 locks the idle actuator (stepper motor?) so you can start the balance procedure the bike settles into a proper tickover, but close it all down and the hunting returns.

My guess is a sticking stepper motor/idle actuator. Any other thoughts? If the stepper motor, can it be removed and serviced, and which bit is it.

Bloody hell! My ears are fixed to the side of my head, I must look at my gs911, I've always fancied that my left lug sticks out a bit.

Well after that test ride all is well with the bike and the ear sensor confirms that they are exactly where they should be.

I can wiggle both ears or just my right ear, but I cant do the left ear on its own. Strange that.

Its a 2011 GSA Mike. 66,000 miles and this is the first time the throttles have been adjusted in the 55,000 miles I have owned it. I have also never done the adaptation reset thing.

I kinda guessed it would be a twin cam,everyone we have balanced just recently has done this



Edit,I havnt had the time to really investigate why they do it
Maybe Mistacat could do some datalogging to pin down what's happening

I have not had this problem when synchronizing the throttle bodies on a twin cam yet, but when I get one I will hit the record button

Took the bike out after service and balancing today, experienced idle at 2000 before settling slowly to normal. Thanks​ for the tip, forgot the rubber caps
