Any recommendations on things / places to see, do, visit etc etc on these Isles.

Arran, Mull, Islay, Skye, North / South Uist, Harris and Lewis.

Uist, Harris and lewis are magic, as is Skye

we sailed from Uig to Lochmaddy on North Uist, rode down to eriskay then north to the butt of lewis (Ooeerr Missus), the roads on Skye are the best, but the scenery on the western isles is great....Oh and dont plan on having fun on a Sunday

Mull's a far nicer place than Skye. Just explore and you're bound to find something to see or do.

If you're into hill-bashing there's Ben More via the ridge from A' Chioch. It's also a great place for whale watching sea safaris, land based wildlife and birds, sea canoeing, sailing, diving, flying into the grass strip at the Glenforsa Hotel.

There's Mull Music Festival on 27th, 28th and 29th of April this year which is really just a way for Robert McLeod to increase the bar takings in the Mishnish. The car rally's in the middle of October as well. Camp on the sea shore at Loch Na Keal at Killichronan or down at Fidden Farm, just outside Fionnphort or stay in the Youth Hostel in Tobermory or one of the Island's B&B's. I know a particularly remote B&B run by a lovely Korean lady and her English husband if you're really interested.

There are three crossings onto the island - Oban to Craignure, Lochaline to Fishnish and Kilchoan to Tobermory (seasonal only). Take your pick....

The smaller roads on Harris on a sunny day are magic and if you take a tent stay at Cnip campsite which is in the dunes over looking this beach- but watch out for Kung fu 650 GS riders...

Did the western Isles 2 years ago from Barra right up to the top of Lewis. Basically there is nothing not to recommend. Fave would be the uists but Harris was great too in a lunar landscape way. Lewis although good isn't as special as the other parts.

When you did Lewis did you did it on a Sunday? Did you did Tolsta?

Friday night out in Stornay- bag is the best nite oot in

If you go to Lewis the stones at Callanish are a must, and if you do Harris find time for a wee donder on Luskentyre beach. Best to go Ullapool-Stornoway-Leverburgh-Berneray-Eriska-Barra-Oban.

If the weathers shite ---its really really shite.

If you go head down arse up you'll do it all in a flash so take time to look and see it properly.

You didn't mention how many days you have


If you fancy Island/Ferry 'bagging'...give me a shout, I have a couple of routes etc. that may be of interest, and it's not a high speed dash

Very religious, virtually everything (if not everything) shut on Sunday.

When I was working there we could only be at the sewage works on a Sunday to deal with emergencies, no site work allowed.

Whist they are comparatively quiet with the mainland, they're not as bad as they used to be. Managed to find a very nice Restaurant open for lunch in Stornoway last May (Google HS1 to see it at the George hotel) they even have a ferry on Sundays now too...

The first time I went to Lewis in 81 was quite an eye opener though....

That was the case in Harris and Lewis a few years back - everything was shut and the swings in the park were chained up...
now you can get a meal , a drink and a newspaper in Stornoway on a Sunday.
