Wet Leathers/ waterproofs

I don't get why you need to bother capping the holes. My mud guard was removed & binned on 1st day of ownership and holes have been there since. Doesn't bother me.

I did consider using grub screws but didn't have any at the time.

You are absolutely right, the holes don't need capping but in my opinion, it looks nicer.

Well, there seems lots of opinions and I can see the merits in all of them. Good clothing/bike protection/driving a car/manning up seems to be just a few we can all choose from :D

Personally I would opt for very good clothing - its expensive but always money well spent however a few of the lads has asked me to make some `protective farkles` as follows and I`m wondering if a set of the side crud catchers for our new watercooled babies would be a good idea......... they are an aquired taste to be fair and don`t offer huge protection but some of the lads were keen for them - personal choice methinks!

I`ll make some for mine in any case :bounce1

Maybe just me but fastening bits and bobs onto your bike using p clips and cable ties to secure them looks f*cking shite.
At least use clear cable ties if you must
Plus its a motorbike if it rains your going to get wet and shitty, if that's a problem then maybe take the car.

Just read all five pages of this thread and being a farmer by profession i'm used to getting covered in all kinds of crap when I'm riding around the cowshit splattered fields on my quadbike although it's got pretty good mudguards to be fair!

My 1200GSA Twincam had its rear 'mudguard removed' because I use TKC80's and I fitted that numberplate flap thingy from Touratech and that stops a lot of the crap from splattering the topbox which also keeps some of the crap off my back.

I also fitted a Maier mudsling which helped a lot and I've also got the Touratech plastic infill side panels fitted to the bike which in my opinion keep a lot of the crap off the back of my legs as do the panniers .

If it's a really filthy day I wear my waterproofs over my textile suit and the waterproofs get covered in all the crap instead of the twatsuit and the waterproofs are much easier to clean!

Ok its not a WC but the same principles apply!

FP.

Mark (Mate) Hooten has not removed his BMW rear fender, stone catcher, GB plate holder (call it what you will).

Laziness?

Trend setter?

Striking a blow for personal freedom and expression, biker style?

Hasn't got around to making and marketing an alternative to TT's bolt on plate?

Too busy polishing the bike? (It's a credit to you, as one regular commentator in the pub section is prone to say)

Rear black plaggy `thing`

Mark (Mate) Hooten has not removed his BMW rear fender, stone catcher, GB plate holder (call it what you will).

Laziness? - quite possibly (1)

Trend setter? - ha, funny, pal - you need to see my fashion sense or lack of it according to my youngest daughter :-)

Striking a blow for personal freedom and expression, biker style? - nah, I`m nailed to `sitting on the fence`

Hasn't got around to making and marketing an alternative to TT's bolt on plate? - its on the list................ see point (1)

Too busy polishing the bike? (It's a credit to you, as one regular commentator in the pub section is prone to say) not much else you can do on crutches :-)
and you wanna see the nutty gser`s (or `nuts` as I know him) bike - its cleaner than new!

But Wapping (mate & I hope you are well) although I try to respect everyone`s opinions (if not incorporate them myself) and to offer a serious answer rather than a flippant one (which I hope will just bring a smile) I`ve left it on because I think it may simply add (albeit very marginally) to the reduction of crap going everywhere. I also respect the opinions of the hard core guys who need to take it off for their serious off roading - show me a Tesco car park anyday..............

Thanks for all the replies and advice........... As I ride all year I do understand that rain does make you wet..... don't own a car, and yes it does rain a lot in Ireland.......
New side covers fitted and that has solved the problem. Maybe if I join the flock and buy the BMW jacket, trousers, boots, gloves, waterproofs, helmet ........ that might keep me dry.

No you`ll just look like a twat;););) probably a dry one but a twat all the same:rolleyes:

Perhaps a combination of spray off the wheel hitting the convex surface of the shock cover and perhaps low air pressure in the "wind shadow" of the cylinders just causes the crap to be pulled out to the sides of the 1200's................
