Wet soda blasting

Mentioned this method a few times but actually remembered to take some pics today. Look -no dust
What you need:
sodium bicarbonate
cheap sand blasting gun with small nozzle
compressor set at 100psi or higher
Drum is optional but contains the spray and recycles some too.
I agitate the solution by rocking the drum as I'm working.

Isn't abrasive enough to give you a new surface like bead blasting but is a gentle clean. Had thought of adding a detergent to the brew for extra cleaning power. I sprayed this carb with degreaser first.

I bought a 25kg bag the other day. I'm not getting good results but that may be down to my compressor.

I bought one of those some months ago, to use with their carburundom grit.
Feckin useless, but that may be down to my compressor not being powerful enough, and you need a large diameter connecting hose to the gun as well to pass the volume of air. My compressor is only 1.5hp and can't keep up enough pressure, think nearer 3hp may be required.

Yep, for any blasting you need a big comptressor with a big tank or a lot of patience. From memory mine is 3hp, 3 cylinder, 24 cfm -it runs a bead blast cabinet no worries as well as air hungry tools like die grinders and shears. Big initial outlay but I'd be buggered without it.
