So not long owned my GS (2019) and I like to do some servicing myself (I use to work on main battle tanks so surely this is easy compared). I have decent tools but I just don't have air tools etc.

Well went to service the final drive and grease the shaft drive, took everything off and got as far as the paravlever bolt and boy did it all go wrong from there!

I'm a big lad but this bolt was welded in (again 2019 bike with 3500miles so surely not), I got it half way out and yep....rounded off the bolt AAAAHHHHH. The Torq bit was absolutely fine so not its fault, just a very stuck in bolt.

Thankfully my local bike garage is always at hand to help and saved my life and it took hime literally 1 minute with his lovely snap-on bit set.:bow

I believe these are one use bolts and he said that someone had clearly taken it off and then lathered it in red loctite and stuck it back in.....thank you whoever that was (probably BMW). So be warned get a proffessional to do your work!

But all sorted now.

Warming up, before extraction to loosen the loctite?

Yes thats what I should of done but at the time I didn't think it had loctite and just thought it had siezed and used a tin of penetrating oil to help.....

Annoyingly I even watched a bloke take his off on a brand new GS and his came off with no problems what so ever.....in fact every video I watched to make sure I'm not doing something wrong showed them getting it off without any issue.

Just my luck

Always post here first. It's saved me a lot of grief in the past. :thumb2

Problem with that is a new member posts on here asking for genuine advice and certain members mercilessly rip the p*ss out of them

they seem to forget they were new once and knew nothing

it does put you off posting/asking questions, particularly if you are new to a brand like i am

Agreed 100%

I am always happy to listen to experience as there is nothing better but boy can it be soul destroying to be called names simply because you asked what at the time wasn't obvious.

yep indeed, there are a certain few members on here, or the ones I have observed, who take great pleasure in belittling people. interestingly, a certain member who I would class in this category, is a member of another forum, of which I am a member, on there they are not so experienced and do not show any of the despicable behaviour they show on this website toward people who are asking genuine questions, yes, the answer might be easy and obvious, but only if you know the answer.

quite a lot of this type will also give a condescending or sarcastic answers, perhaps they have no friends and this is the only way they can communicate, while hidden behind screen names.
quite happy to meet any of these people in the playground after school bell.
