got an emergency call from my brother to get to the hospital asap where my 86yr old dad is because hes very poorly, i thought id go on the bike because its rush hour , i pulled into a BP station and filled up with the green nozzle, bike was on empty, i pulled off and bike splutters to a halt about a mile down the road:blast had to be recovered, the fuel was diesel ultimate:blast
any tips to get it sorted? 2015 LC is it easy to remove the tank?

Oh Lordy

Sorry to hear that

Sniff the nozzle, in future when you have more time Steve

Been there, done that. You don't half feel a pratt eh? Either call in a specialist (cost ard £120 inc new petrol at a guess) or get a few jerry cans and syphon out the lot. Refill with petrol after spinning over a few times with the plugs out. It'll smoke a bit for a while but will clear eventually.

Malta, Austria last year.

My colleague and I pulled into the local filling station.
Went to move off and he got 5 metres. His Ducati was full of Diesel.
He has only one leg.
I rode back up to the Gastof Hochalmspitze, there acquiring a 25 litre drum and a piece of hose.
My colleague got the mouthful of diesel.
Tank empty, I shoved the bike back to the pumps.
Refilled with petrol.
Switched the ignition on and off about 12 times to purge the diesel out of the fuel lines.
He hit the starter, and the bike instantly sat ticking over.
Away we went.
Total time lost: 45 mins.

Wapping to the diesel thread please?

I am still running the GSA that Wapping brimmed with France's finest gazole. 75,000 miles and still going strong.

I thought the diesel nozzle was to big to go into the tank? I must be careful as I have a diesel car and fill up at the same place...

I done it yo my 800 gsa. 27 litres into it she went about 3 miles and stopped. I knew instantly what had happened. I got it to another garage and rang Mrs. who came to the garage with our diesel Alhambra. I syphond all the diesel out and filled up with petrol. Of course it wouldn't start so into shop I go buy some easy start and spray into inlet tube while turning over the engine. Eventually she starts and runs very smokey for 30 seconds. She cleared and ran ok for 40,000 km till I traded it. JJH

I have done this too on one of my other bike doh! luckily I only put about 4-6 litre before realised what I had done, I just switched over to petrol and carried filling the bike up, took a while to start and a bit smokey but after a blast up the motorway and another tank of "petrol" the bike ran fine phew!

thanks for the info..is there a quick way of draining the tank without removing it, ie. using the onboard pump?

I did it on my K1300S on my way to my first RoSPA advanced test. I realised before I set off so brimmed it with 98 RON, it smoked and spluttered at times but cleared by the time I reached the RVP. When i did my pre-ride checks, I confirmed that had refuelled :-0

Heres hoping you Dad & bike engine are OK.

The bike will be fine, Steve. How's your Dad?

I have to admit I did the same thing last year coming back from Germany, last services on A26 before turning off for the tunnel, fortunately I was topping up, as the sports bike boyz needed to fill up, so only about half a tank of derv went in, I realised my mistake so didn't start bike, amongst all the piss taking a helpful guy who worked at filling station produced a cut down hosepipe, of course I had the joy of getting a mouthful of petrol/derv mix, not pleasant and hopefully a reminder not to do it again!! Filled up with petrol and have never had an issue apart from not being allowed to forget the incident from so called friends:rolleyes: Everytime I burped for the next few days I tasted derv:barf

My excuse of course was that the GS is a tad agricultural and reminded me of a tractor:blast

I done it to mine one wet and drab Sunday morning last December, realised just as I was about to close the tank flap

So I was a bit more fortunate than you I pushed the bike off the forecourt, removed the tank and emptied it into a container I found in the garage bin, swilled the tank out with a gallon of petrol refitted tank and all the plastics in less than a hour (lucky in a way )

Hope your Dad is ok

My pal put derv in his F800R in Dumfries. It got to castleside in county durham before giving up. About 70 miles. It totalled the engine though.

Ha ha ....

Oh dear! Easily done if you're not concentrating and run a diesel car! (well that's my excuse).

At least i didn't start mine ... :D

Go to your local tropical fish shop and buy a hand pump syphon for about £5.. Pump out the diesel, job done.
