Ride out on Sunday

Right.... Friday night now. Have to take the bull by the horns now for a mini rideout on Sunday. A bit let down by how the last two days have gone on the posting but what the hell. I had the best days ride today on my own up to one of my customers in Ballymoney. Went all the little country roads. Major grins.

Let's meet at McDonald's at Sprucefield (would hope that is close enough for Jockser) at 10.30am.

The BBC weather forecasts a pretty shit day but the North Coast is meant to be clear. Maybe we could do a rather predictable run up the Antrim Coast via the Glens. Go for a bite to eat somewhere up there, go for a drink at the Bushmills Inn and spend the rest of the time on the bikes.

I think the weekend run will be on the 17th/18th. We can discuss this when we meet up.

If someone wants to come up with a slightly less predictable run, be my guest but we will need to be fair on everyone and make a final decision on were the run will be my noon on Saturday.

Who's in this weekend?

17th and 18th September. GS Weekend.

Guys,

I have decided that with the best weekend is that of the 17th-18th of September. It means that people can come on one of the two days if they can't make both.

Now.... we need a venue. I think it would be wise to go somewhere that is a fair enough distance for everyone from North and South. Somewhere thats go a good nightlife would be a bonus. Also, if we get enough people, maybe someone could organise a green lane/off road run for those who wish to get the old boots muddy....so therefore somewhere with a bit of a reputation for being good biking country would be most welcomed. Not too much to ask is it?

Come on fellas.... date has been decided. Let's discuss the venue for the next few days and then we will get it sorted and I will get stuff booked.

There's a McDonalds at Sprucefield....? Have to make sure I eat plenty of healthy stuff for breakfast :thumb

If your looking a less predictable run you could go Hillsborough, out toward Warringstown, Banbridge, Gilford, Tandragee, Markethill, Keady, Middletown, Monaghan, Coothill, Shercock, Ballybay, Castleblayney, Newtownhamilton, Markethill, Tandragee, Scarva, Loughbrickland and then back up. Looks wet mind. :D

SH1T

Have a run planned around Waterford & Wexford for a run with a friend & he's not too keen on changing venue / direction :(

Will work on him some more ;) - ya never know.

Where in the jame of nasus is Sprucefield - well I know its a shopping centre :D - we get the TV ads down here now ;) - think its either Newry or Lisburn :)

Not a big fan of the retail therapy religion but the wife is a full-time practising devotee :D :D

Sugarcube... assuming you get this in time.... where exactly is the McDoo at Sprucefield? In the center carpark?

Guys - I'm sorry ( & hugely disapointed :( ) but I ain't gonna made it today.

I did say early on that this weekend didn't suit but I still wudda liked to go.

Factors outside my control have conspired against me ( where's the crying smilie gone ?? )

The good news ( for me anyway ;) is I'll be there on the next one - definately for the Sunday & almost certainly for the Sat too :clap :clap

Have a good day - its dry & brite, little overcast & a bit of a breeze down here - hope it holds :D

You can't miss it. The big Golden Arches sign will let you know!

Failing that, here's my mobile.... 07971020610.

Well, grand total of four Norn Iron GSers showed up at MacDs this morning - Sugarcube, Mzokk, Wizard and meself. After a healthy breakfast, we set off for a wee run through Dromara, Rathfriland, Hilltown and a wee stop at Spelga Dam (where a pic was taken by a passing tourist after 4 highly intelligent GSers couldn't figure out the selftimer on Mzokk's camera :D )

On through Bryansford, Dundrum, Clough, Killough to Ardglass where we had a wee cuppa.

I had to peel off at this point, believe the others crossed on the Strangford Ferry and made their way back to the smoke via N'ards.

Great run, thanks to Mzokk for leading and to Sugarcube for suggesting the run in the first place. Good to meet Wizard for the first time.

Now, how about getting this event up and running on 17/18 September? Co Monaghan/Cavan seems to suit most people, how's about that hotel where we all met up outside Virginia - Lakeside Manor, wasn't it? Anyone know anything about accommodation there?

Mate of mine who used to race jetskis rated it when they had an Irish Championship round there. Don't know how much it was, but I remember they were particularly happy with the scran. :thumb

Lakeside Manor, Virginia

The Riders Rally finished there this year. They have ample grounds for camping, but the accommodation in the hotel is very good. I cam confirm, as Wizard says that the grub is very good, both the bar meals and the more formal dining room upstairs. Highly recommended.

Given that the Riders Rally has used this hotel as an overnight stop on a few occaisons, there should be no problem for us to organise something as they are bike friendly.

BTW, a double room on the August bank holiday Sunday night cost us €100, but the room was of a very high standard. Good value IMO.

Virginia it is....

Guys,

I have just called the Lakeside Manor and we have secured the last three rooms in the place! I will get further details of what they are later e.g. twin, triples etc. If you look carefully at the picture of the hotel, there is water in front of the hotel, a green area, then the car park and then the hotel. To the right of the Hotel if you are looking at it from the same angle as the picture is a massive green area (not in the picture) overlooking the lake. The hotel is allowing us to pitch tents for free that weekend.

Also, there is to be a Powerboat race on the lake on the Sunday with practice taking place on the Saturday so should make for an interesting weekend.

Well done Sugarcube - looks the business.

Put me down for a bed - I'm definitely going :thumb

The only problem now is her indoors thinks I said Fri & Sat nights - I'll just have to find somewhere to go on Friday nite ;) ;)

Sounds like you guys had a good run yesterday. We had a few patches of rain 'down south' but nothing to dampen the spirits :D

Looking forward to seeing youse on the 17th - now wheres the rest of the southern GS'ers

I'll second that, well done Sugarcube!!! :thumb

Apologies for the weekends confusion, i would have been there otherwise.

Any chance you could put me down for a bed at the Lakeside??

Failing that, can you let me know if i need to sort something else.

Cheers,

t

Whooppee!

I'll have a bed. Or a bench. Or a floor. Are the ditches comfy?

Ok. There are two triple rooms and one double. I am going to take the double with SWMBO and the first triple has been taken by Jockser, TrevMcDev8 and Wizard. There is one triple room left to be filled.

Jockser has provided links to excellent alternative accommodation in Virginia and the Lakeside Manor has kindly let all campers pitch for free in the grounds overlooking the lake.

When I am sure of numbers, we can organise a meal on Saturday at the Lakeside so the poor campers haven't got too far too stagger.

Next three to voice their requests to be in the triple on this post (not by PM'ing me) will get the bed. I think that's the fairest way.

Remember, we are organising this over the weekend to accommodate as many as possible who can only do one day. Please give some indication if you are going or not.

Cheers.
