What about this Donegal Man????????????????

Fair play to him for his bravery!

I wonder how they found time to report these events and to recommend decorations? I suppose it was quiet at night.

Here's Mr Duffy's grave, which can be found outside Letterkenny about a mile or so on the left hand side on the road to Glenties at a place near Conwal.

The local council errected a stone/bench at the UN memorial plot in Letterkenny Park.

At present I'm photographing graves/memorials of VC holders in the province of Ulster.

Enniskillen was at one time called Inniskilling which loosely translated into English

was Island of Kathleen.

What about these Donegal Men .

:::::We Serve neither King Nor Kaiser :::::

He was amongst the Lucky ones .
Quite a few Suffered Pain of Death , at the hand of their Masters.
Usually an English Officer .
There is quite a pomp in this area ,these days about "our War Dead"
When i asked about those that were """Shot at dawn""
there was a silence .. Maybe none of them knew , Maybe it didnt suit
maybe no one had the Balls to ask about the Irish shot by their own .

Yes its good to remember those that were lucky .
But least we Forget the Irish Soliders serving in the British Army that were
Shot for being Irish.

Doesn't make for good reading...

However, it is always easier to rake over the embers long after the event. You have to remember that many injustices were carried out during WW1 as the likes of shell shock etc wasn't recognised as an 'illness'. In WW2, RAF crewmen were labelled as LMF (lacking moral fibre) if they refused to fly or cracked under the strain of duty and were stripped of their rank and humiliated in front of their Command (better than being in front of a firing squad tho'). So the past has to be kept in some sort of perspective as it was how it was done in those days. As for the numbers of Irish being singled out compared to other nations, well, it's harder to answer that. Was it down to a lack of discipline within the ranks compared to other nationalities ? As no-one is left alive to answer some very important questions of the era, I guess those questions will go unanswered. But that'll not stop some people today from making up the answers anyway.

.......... wankers like you ..............ignorant and biggoted ...................scum like you ..............a future that has no room for the likes of you.

Not for the first time I regard you as being out of order. I have never met the target of your attack; I do not totally agree with the sentiments he expressed but he & his views deserve more respect than you have accorded him. Your intemperate language speaks more eloquently of you than your target. Dignity & respect are attributes worth working on - you appear to have a lot of work to do.

Beautifully put Gerry.

I have "soft deleted" the posts as I too find them wholly objectionable.

Just where, I wonder, do you see your place in the future Civil?

Surely then you can express it without stooping to insults and name calling?

Respect is a two way street. So too it would seem is bigotry.
