What accessory next????

I have been having a clear out of items that I don't use anymore and now have 175 in the bike accessory pot. I was tempted to get myself some OEM aluminium panniers second hand but my budget couldn't stretch to it.

So can anyone recommend anything to fit to my 650GS twin? My bike is pretty well sorted as it has Crash bars, decent screen, pannier frames and rear rack, spotlights, comfy seat, satnav, and sump guard. I shall most probably save the cash for the next set of tyres but shall be interesting what people come up with!

Whats usefull and protection based would be a fat foot for your side stand great for the soft stuff and some protection for your lights, a poly carbonate thingy

That is certianly a good suggestion! I have to admit I did start thinking about where me and my wife can go on the bike!

Accessory acsmeshery.......go buy some fekkin petrol and a few nights away in some B&Bs or a cheap tent.......

The goal of a modifying your bike isn't (or certainly shouldn't be , IMO) to spend as much as you can then to sit back and say it's complete then move on to the next big thing...it's to spend as little as you can to be able to go out and ride it as far as you can in comfort depending on what you've put on to it.

The only person who can possibly tell you what you might be lacking and hence what to buy next, is YOURSELF, and then only once you've ridden it to establish what would be good to have

Ok though, I'll play the game.....what you need to buy next is a YHS associate pass, a ticket from your nearest port to the nearest continental land mass and a load of fuel.

theres an offer you cant refuse....free b/b....Harwich to Hoek Van Holland ferry......nice 180 mile ride down To Dusseldorf, couple of nights with the better half, cut back through Belgium for ferry to Dover....close enough to home for an interesting dash if the weather gets really shitty........

You're very welcome, but....(and I'm reigning myself in here)....

the crux of my point was that the only way you'll ever find out what will add to your touring capability is to do a bit of touring, or put some proper miles on itcommuting, then you'll find out what you NEED.


It's a classic and age old problem......buy the bike, buy the kit, buy all the farkles, but go nowhere........

It's long been proven that you can take a Honda C90 or a Dr350 around the world with a set of cheap Hein Gericke throwovers, followed by locally bought laundry bags after they fail, and you already have a decent bike with all (if not MORE) than you need.......please, don't go looking for more to bung on it, unless your satisfaction comes from owning a bike like that and spending dosh on it rather than owning a bike like that to get satisfaction from the ride and the journey.

FWIW though, if you're commuting all year around, you won't spend a better pound or two on a set of very untrendy, really ugly but superbly practical and wonderfully warm Tucano muffs, or even a shytebag if they do one for your bike (do a search here on "SHYTEBAGS")

After ride down to Austria this year we plan to go to Germany and Yorkshire next year! So don't worry, I do get out on my bike!

Yes, Youre in danger of waking up the farkle police lots of strong opinions on them, oops I think you already have

It's not as if you posted a personal choice of, ride your bike or farkle

Now I know you like to get out there and do one as they say somewhere Personaly im into enhancing my ride to suit me where I can I see my farkle's as enhancing or protection (insurance). But i like it to look nice to me also.


I must admit thoes muffs are good in the winter got mine from Val H of this parish, they look good on the blue one http://www.thelmcco.com/Products.html fur lined riding with summer glover in winter mostly not even putting on the heated grips
