I would guess OS maps are Ordnance Survey maps. I’ve never heard of open source maps. Are they a similar thing to Ordnance Survey maps?

=======

Cut from a thread where a bod had trouble downloading an Ordnance Survey map / route / track.

OS= Ordnance Survey is the national mapping agency for Great Britain.

OS Master map
OS Master Map 3D
OS Overview
OS Road map
And you have to buy them.

OSM= Open Source Maps for all over the world (bar a couple of spots) made, updated, developped by a huge number of people all over the world and are free to all.
Open Source means just that.

Eh?
Perhaps you didn’t understand what I said or maybe I didn’t explain it clearly.
The solution is to recreate the route from scratch only including the portion I require.
Easy enough to do and as I mentioned that is what I intend to do. 👍
I just photograph the area I want on my paper OS map and zoom in/out as required.

To a tee 👍

Jesus, I’ve just been looking at open source maps. First it went to open street maps which I didn’t want then loads of talk about different overlays etc. Far, far too complicated to use. Just give me a proper old school OS map and I’ll be fine.
Thanks to whoever mentioned open source maps but just not user friendly enough for me.

If you need 'walking through the steps' I can help you-
Think of it as a sequence of steps you go through to obtain a free, ready made map for whichever country you want provided it is available.
It is not difficult and I have already 'walked' a few members on here.
DM me your mobile and a few good times to call you when you'll be in front of your PC.
I'll put in the time if you are willing to put in the effort!
