What are the blocks on the back of panniers for

Just out of interest could some kind person please tell me what the blocks are for on the back of some standard BMW aluminium panniers.

As above. Started to get fitted to hexheads around 2010 I think as the missus bought a twin can in 2010 and it had them

Exactly that. I got down from the top of a Col in about 2009 and couldn’t open the top box lid on my GSA.

Yep, had a massive battle with my 07 panniers in France owing to an airlock!! I have these with the blocks on my 09 and soo much easier! I
