I have a 2015 1200GS with ESA (with a new Traktive shock in the rear, and a 75k miles original battered and failing front one).

I read somewhere here that the "1 helmet" ESA preload setting is made for a 85kg person. My bike has three options: 1 helmet, 1 helmet + luggage, 2 helmets.

I weigh 80kg, up to 95-100kg with my gear on and soft panniers + pannier racks. At this combined weight, should I ride in "1 helmet" or "1 helmet + luggage" setting? What's the recommended weight to select that second option?

Seriously it isn't that important, just choose what feels best for you.

^this.

But I do remember with my last MY17 1200GS, solo spirited fast road riding was best in 1+luggage to keep the bike from wallowing and pitching fore/aft. I’m 79kg.

The 1250 GS has the biggest improvement in this area with self-levelling DSA2 that always keeps the bike on its nose.
