Mine is to go on holiday miles away until its all over.
Its just sinking in how much will be closed off over the weekend. I cannot understand why traffic cannot cross the route until the tour approaches, and why the roads do not reopen 30 minutes after the tour has passed.
I'm hoping the roads do not get slogans painted on them like they do in France. I'm fully expecting my favourite roads to have "go broom " etc plastered all over and visible for the next three or four years.

You can probably guess I'm not a fan although I enjoy cycling. I have seen much better bikes than mine painted yellow and leaning on hedges. Can I help myself to one when its all over?

It was pointed out to me these closures will be only once in a lifetime. The population of the Isle of Man have it for two weeks twice a year every year.

Pretty much the same as you. I was going to go and watch but decided the hassle probably isn't worth it. Seems like every bit of parking space will be chargeable and the crowds will be huge. I think they close the roads well before to ensure they are clean. Could be wrong on that, though.

The bike's booked in for a sort of servicey type thing at Rainbow on the 5th July:blast

I have, however, got a K16 booked for a few hours and would love to get somewhere nearby to see the race go through.
Hoping to get to Sheffield on the Sunday to cheer the Irish riders on :aidan

After that I shall watch the highlights show on ITV every night.

Allez Les Vertes!

The roads are closed well in advance for a number a reasons, including crowd safety, and also the fact that running about two hours in front of the race is a massive convoy of promotional vehicles called the caravan. It comprises all sorts of weird and wonderful vehicles advertising all kinds of crap and us manned by very lovely young ladies and gents! They chuck stuff to the crowd like sweets, trinkets, t-shirts etc.
You'll probably see grown men fighting over a bag of Haribo that's been thrown at them by some fit lass in a leotard!

Vive Le Tour :D

I'm a big fan of cycling so looking forward to it. The road closures are a bit overkill though. In France it tends to be 2-3 hours before and 30 mins after the race passes. I guess we don't have the experience here so they decided not to take any chances with the world spotlight pointed at Yorkshire for two days! Harrogate is shut from 4am to 10pm!

As I live about 10 mins walk from the finish I think I'll just go down and soak in the atmosphere at the fan park on the stray by the finish line....and watch it on the big screen.

la tour

im going to whitby to the northern soul weekender friday till sunday
my dads coming to stay at my house
room in the drive for two cars
my daughters coming over to watch we live on the route
im going to strim the verge so the visitors get a great view
hope you all have a fantastic time

The tour passes within about 1/4 mile of my house in Haworth on 6th July, but I'll be in the Black Hills of South Dakota, probably being underwhelmed by Mount Rushmore as the tour heads up Main Street :P

Will there be a brass band playing the Hovis tune while the riders peddle up Howarth main street?
Take my hat off to the riders there, its a steep hill and I know the riders hate cobbles (Belgian Pave). The Keighley Druids road on a motorbike is enough for me.

Camping in Ilkley (It's where I was born.....'Thar Knos'....;) )

I've never seen this sort of event so I will pop along, with an open mind, and see what goes on.

Hope the sun shines for everyone....Looking forward to it......:thumb2

There was some talk about them missing Main Street and going up Rawdon Road (or the "new" road as us locals call it despite it being about 50 years old), but I'm sure it's now back on the route as it's got to be one of the most cinematic views of the second day.

If you haven't been to see a Tour stage before be aware that if you aren't on a climb the peleton will be coming through at a great rate of knots and you'll only see them for a few seconds. Of course, you've got all the caravan coming through before them which adds a bit of atmosphere. The first sign that they are getting near is usually the circling helicopters. Good fun.

Back in 2012... heading towards Brive... the breakaway group.

Closely followed by the chasing peleton... they were really motoring.

I was thinking the same, it'll be great etc

However it is just sinking in, what a complete ballache it may well turn out

Great spectacle, for sure

Having been away, this weekend in the Scottish Borders, I'm just thinking that might make a fab alternative, if the sun is shining

Riding one of the routes this weekend then getting locked in by road closures as it flies through so...parteeeee:D:D:D:beerjug:

Going to Bakerman's do :)
Anyone else from Yorkshire going? I'm thinking of taking the van and my trail bike. Room for a passenger & a little bike if anyone wants to share the fuel cost :)

Just come back from Wales via Hebden Bridge, Oxenhope, Keighley, Blubberhouses etc.
Never seen so may council workers filling pot holes, filling round drain covers, cutting grass, laying tarmac.
Roads should be great after Le Tour. Shame they couldn't do it before.
Looks like entire area will be closed for at least two days, better get your supplies in. (looks like majority of A65 and A59 which are the main East West routes, so good luck)
If you fancy going it only costs £10 to park in a farmers field!
Dales will be complete shutdown.

Still think it will be good for the area, but I'm sure it will be best on TV.
