Looking for a pair of boots than can be used for both hiking and motorcycling as after four or five miles walking in my Hein Gericke Tauregs my heels start to nip a wee bit....!

I usually carry hiking boots(size 47) but they take up a lot of space in my panniers.

I seem to remember Altbergs getting good reviews a while back.

Any advice appreciated

Thanks FP.:thumb

yep I have a pair of the Altberg lace up boots, they're brilliant.
For walking in just don't do the laces all ther way up.:thumb

I've used Doc Martens for touring all around Europe. Not waterproof though.

I've also got a pair of Daytona Rainbow GTX. They have a short shaft length but come with the same ankle & foot protection as all of the other Daytona boots. I can wear them all day if I commute on the bike and walk around sightseeing on holidays. They can be worn with normal jeans and don't stand out as biking boots.

Altberg Hoggs!

I've had a good look on the Altberg website and like the look of the Hogg All Weather Boots but i'm not sure if the 'high' version is as good for walking in as the slightly shorter version though....!

I'm sure I read a really good review on Altberg Hoggs years ago but got swept up in the MX style boot craze because they 'suited' the GS but were crap for walking in and some weren't even waterproof, just what you need on an arctic tour.....!

Just need to decide which Hogg to order, i'll be using them in Iceland in may and i'm hoping they'll have heat resistant soles as well as being warm, waterproof and very tough......!

Mrs P uses Daytona Ladystars and she says she can walk in them all day without any problems:thumb2

The soles are pretty heavy duty but the uppers are really supple, comfy from the first day.

Altbergs:thumb
Only boots me and JusStan wear if we are of for a day or bike rallying.
Can be worn comfortably for hours on end.

+1 for Daytonas :thumb Just got mine back from Germany after a refurb (new soles, new Goretex needed after 6 years abuse) Been using an old pair of HGs while they were away (6 weeks ) and it's like putting on an old pair of comfy slippers :D Can walk miles, wear 'em all day. Not sure I'd want to climb a mountain in them tho' but for all round use, they are magic :thumb2

Ex-Army boots, from the army surplus store. £20 ish. Polish up a treat. Comfy all day too :D

Although I believe the gortex ones are a little more expensive.

+1:thumb for the Army boots Miff, I wore my old ones out years ago on my first bike a BMW F650 Funduro.

They were very comfortable and i'd worn them in myself so they fitted like a 'glove'

I'm not so sure about second hand ones though as I know what my feet are like after a long hot sweaty day 'Charley Feet'........!:barf

army boots to but not the best for using on a bike as they dont have ankle protection.

I intend to use my walking boots on the bike more this year. Going down to Tiffs in Lands End and want to walk a bit of the SW coast path whilst there, also the Picos and walk the Care Gorge. Mine were from Oswald Bailey and only about £50, their waterproof.

Another for Altbergs, best boot's ever comfy all day and warm, and if your feet are wide like me you can order wider fit...
And made in UK.:thumb

Last summer on my western isle tour I just wore my walking boots. Meant for walking, waterproof and probably give as much protection as any other boot. I carried my gaiters as well so I used them if it was pissing down with them being a bit shorter.

Had a pair of Hogg all weather for 5 years now and worn them virtually everyday for the last eighteen months, perfect comfort but as with most things in life, they are a compromise.....they are clearly not as protctive as say dedicated motocross style boots or similar.
I would buy them again though, 100% waterproof too!

You could try Altbergs, Altbergs or Altbergs. Got a pair of Clubmans which are really comfy on and off the bike (and they're British). Supportive AND comfortable.
