what can I reasonably expect from dealer when waving the cash for new GSA

I'll phone round and see what stock dealers have, sounds a good idea. Been trying to get hold of Motorrad Dalkeith for a couple of weeks but they must have shut for the festive period, which was dissapointing given the £800 accessories offer ran to 31st Dec. Nothing on their Answering machine or website to say why I can't contact them. - not a good start.

They are open again on Tuesday 10th January.

I got my triple black GSA from them in December and they worked very hard to get our business. If you're in a position to buy, do so ASAP before biking season starts.

He's NOT making multiple credit applications though at one point in time

So no aggro from Credit Reference Agencies

He's setting up a HP deal and short settling it early

This can attract a CIFAS check into money laundering though, which is a wee bit more serious

It doesn't matter that this is a one-off loan application. This and other routine stuff (e.g. Moving to a new mobile phone provider, or simply "shopping around" for the best insurance or finance deal) leaves a "footprint" on the search records held by the credit reference agencies which is kept on file for at least 12 months. A higher number of searches is generally seen as a negative indicator by finance companies.

You don't get aggro from the Credit Reference Agencies - they collate and hold the information, and pass it on to a prospective lender, leaving the latter to make their own decision. The agencies do not "blacklist" people or provide credit scores for them.

But what you said in your original post was wrong in that situation

He made one application & settled early, so no multiple applications were made

I do this everyday in my line of employment

I got a great deal from Pidcocks in October, money off the bike as well as the £800 deal from BMW, they are only a £10 taxi ride from East Midlands Airport, so you could get there easy and get a great running in ride home :thumb

I bought my GSA in September, I spent a month ringing dealers throughout the UK inviting them to give me their best price for the spec i wanted and then working them against each other until eventually i was left with one clear winner. I was open with them from the start about what I was doing and ended up buying from Clarkes in Rednal which meant 3hrs by train to pick her up. The saving between the highest bid and the winning bid was almost 2k after all the extras were included and i got a great ride home through Mid-Wales back down to Cardiff.:thumb2

I was looking to replace my GS back in the summer. The local offer was double my monthly payments and didn't seem to have much room for negotiation or movement. I ended up buying a bike at a great price from Williams in Manchester. Rode my old bike down the M6 and brought the new one home via the A7, on a beautiful June day. :D

My opinion/view? Don't restrict yourself to the local dealer, although I appreciate that it is a different time of year for a long run to pick up. Some will deliver though and on a new bike, condition should not be an consideration. I subsequently had a warranty issue which the local dealer fixed no problem (they also kept my business for servicing so no complaints there anyway).

If I had cash, I would be sitting in front of the computer and phoning every BMW dealer in the country asking 'How much for a new GSA with the following spec.....' I will always give the local dealer a chance to participate but they will never be the only game in town for me now. :thumb2

It's also worth checking the Bike Trader web site to see what the dealers are selling off. It has a pretty good search engine where you can narrow down your requirements.

Nearly forgot - no real advantage to waiting till the show as they use it very much as a shop window I think. Another tip is wait until near the end of a quarter year when they are keen to sell to make up their manufacturers quotas, i.e., March, June, September and December. Good luck. PM me if you want more details on what I wrote above given we are near neighbours. :beerjug:

Check out late 2011 bikes - the BMW Motorrad webpage has "bikes coming soon" on their website.
September 2011 bikes, dynamic & premium, 1,000 odd mile on the clock about £12,800 plus a bit of negotiation that'll be less than £12.5k sir.......do you really need a brand new bike?
Don't wait till the show (which is normally crap) as the best time is Nov/Dec/Jan and bikes start going up in price now and perhaps look further afield than Scotland.
Good luck - be good to hear what you get and from who.......:D

Easy job....

Have in mind exactly what you want.

For me it was a fully loaded GSA, full luggage and 1st service. I didnt go finance (This 'can' assist).

Ask every dealer on the list to give you the best deal they can, explain that you will be buying the bike and set a timescale... before the end of the month works well. NEVER tell them your best price!

Always tell the dealer you are prepared to travel to collect the bike, a little white lie about having connections in the area so visiting isnt a problem also adds credibility.

I asked for an Emailed quote...

Get the best offer, offer your local guys the chance to match / beat it, if they can't, jump on the train and ride it back.

My local dealer's quote was almost £3k more than the best offer:eek:

They didnt seem interested in matching the quote so a 2 hour train ride a week later was followed by a nice ride home on the GSA.

This is 3 years & 40,000m+ ago, It'll still work though.. £3k has paid for a few jaunts on the bike... Try it, nothing ventured etc. Only for the cost of a few phone calls. You WILL find someone willing to do a deal to meet sales figures.

Roger.
