what Classic bike projects are you doing this winter?

The R60/2 has had the tank lined with POR15 and Mike reckoned the paint needed to be stripped as the tinware has been painted at least twice in it's 50 yrs and then powder coated to a shit standard. I will drop the bits off to be resprayed tomorrow.
I have dropped a few bits off to be chromed and the carbs will need cleaning and renovating.
The next thing is to take the heads off and check everything is OK inside the head and bore plus I can see how many times the bike has been rebored in its life.
It might be that once the heads are off I renew the pushrod tubes and rubbers and then I suppose I might as well take the engine out and put it on the bench to clean the casings: so much for tidying the bike up a bit :blast

I am lucky that Mike is doing a bit of work on the bike in return for me doing a bit of building for him. The good news is he is a perfectionist, the bad news is he is a perfectionist...........................

Here is Mike's Mk1 Le Mans that he restored, I think it is fair to say there is unlikely to be a better Mk1 Le Mans in the country

Building these from scratch is Mike's day job now. Scaled and working copies of the originals. Clever bloke.

A quick update.

The wiring in the headlamp shell was like Spaghetti Junction so it was routed and tidied up when the newly painted shell was refitted.

The tinware has been painted and the tank and mud guards pinstriped. The old boy who did the pin striping has a pretty steady hand and good eyes for a 76 year old

And the wheels have been polished and re-spoked. Purists had better look away now because I have bought some chrome hubs from Germany to bling the bike up a bit. I will also fit a stainless rear brake linkage.

I had better get a move on if I want to make the most of the summer riding the bike.

Well, I have finally got around to finishing the R60/2 except for wiring the indicators.

The Quasimodo comfort seat had to go. It has been stored and a sprung saddle fitted. It gives the bike a bobber look imho. I just have to decide now if I fit a rear seat or more likely a rack on top of the mudguard. Either way I don't suppose I will bother with the bike until early next year now with a view to getting it the road late March/April time.

This winter's project is a Triumph Twentyone and a CBX.

Anyone else got a winter project lined up or plan on finishing an existing one?

I've got far too many :D.

My 1958 Ariel 'VH' 500 single needs a re-spay so that its a consistent colour throughout. That's not essential though and I could just ride it I guess.

I have a 1931 P&M Panther M50 500 single in bits that requires a lot of work. It was stripped in the 1950s and left in a barn in Skye - many bits are missing :blast.

I have the buff logbook and two tax disks (1953 & '54) so I'll have to get it re-registered with its original number (TG 1489).

Its going to be fun finding parts as only 200 were made :blast.

Back in 2004 I bought a "Triumph Tiger Cub in bits". It turned out to be a pile of Tiger Cub parts - from different years & models. I intend to restore it as a 1958 swing-arm model . . sometime . .

Then there's the 1988 R100 GS that could do with a fettle as its a long time since I did any work on it. I'm the 9th owner and all those Scottish winters have taken their toll of the alloy. It runs though, and is a useable bike.

I also have a 1976 Zetor 6718 tractor in bits that I must finish one day. I've done all the hard work and it just needs putting together. The "Dance Hall" cab needs restoring, but I can't do that in the garage as its too large (3.5 ton 67 BHP machine :rob).

Then there's all the jobs in the house and garden (300 year old Farmhouse :blast).

Plenty to keep me busy :D.

Bob.

I'm looking for a winter project now, something to store in my new man cave and fettle with in my spare time.

An old brit single would be nice, Ariel, BSA or Norton Velo whatever, even an old harley perhaps, i'd love a 57 pan:thumb2

I got a call today from the metal basher, asking if I would like to see how the tank is coming on, so I did, and it is... :thumb

Almost ready for paint...

Due to being a little under the weather of late, I have been unable to wave a spanner in any semblance of anger, so things down in the lock-up have all got a little dusty, not helped by the strong winds we have endured recently.

But that being said, a little work has progressed on my Norton Clubman project, as you will see from the pictures below. overall I am really happy with how it is all progressing, sure I see things that I would change if I were doing it again, the front brake scoop is not quite how I would have liked it, but for a first go at this type of thing I am happy.

The fuel tank looks like it is white, but that is just where the sun was reflecting off of the aluminium.
