What controls idle balance on a 1200GS?

You could always unplug the stepper motors, but I haven't found this necessary.

I would imagine that Mouse is correct. at 4000rpm with bike at rest, there is not much load, but throttles will still be way past idle and I cannot believe that stepper motors would have much effect.

However, to confirm what you are all saying I have found this thread:

Somewhere I saw a reference that disconnecting the stepper motors can fry them .Not sure why, maybe they self destruct on reconnection;) I wonder if anyone has dared to try this for confirmation?

The Twinmax can be used during ridng, thereby checking the balance under load, maybe this is better.

I did not expect to trigger such compliceted answers. My problem is that my idle balance is not balanced at idle, so somehow the stepper motors are not doing their jobs effectively.

So next question...
What are your bikes like at idle, are they perfectly balanced?

No, but it's in spec!

And how much throttle do you think it takes to spin an engine at 4,000 rpm

Yes, on reflection I think that you are right, i.e. not very much with no load.
So steppers will ruin any attempts at balancing...
unless they are inactivated above idle speeds- but this is just a thought.
I wonder why an engine designer would wish them to work above idle-if indeed they do.

Think think think:confused:
:D
