WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR HARLEY TODAY??

Moved the HD to get the GS out.....took the GS for a thrash

Got it ...

... MoT'd :thumb

Actually very pleased as the young man who completed the MoT actually fixed things to make it pass, and didn't charge me  That included a loose handlebar grip and a defective rear brake light switch where he re-soldered a contact; I was most impressed.

I'm a frit:eek:

started the winter rebuild last night...

Panniers Off
Seat Off and sent to be recovered
Zorst system off and Header off to Welders
Rear wheel out to find the constent loss of pressure.... hope its not a cracked rim!
Tank off
General rear end tidy up and frame touch up!

Next phase
Fabricated forward controls
Remove front crash bars
13" "bagger" handle bars
New inner fairing to replace cracked one
Lowered and Tinted screen
General front end tidy up...
Fix timing cone cover
general service and job done.....

it will be.... what could possible go wrong... after all taking it apart is easy!!:augie

Well the zorst header is back from the welders..... Lovely jubbly cost me a tenner!! (Just buy me a pint...)

the Studs came out of the head as the nuts had rusted on.... so need to get new studs and nuts... also, and lucky this.. One of the Nuts was rounded pretty badly, but I just managed to get enough grip to get the little fecker out...

Tell me...... why refit a rounded nut?? Some knob has in the past.....

looks like the Studs are a whopping £6.00 for four from HD, just as well fit OEM parts in this delicate area.....

Tomorrow the rear wheel is off to Horndean Tyres for a dunk in their bucket!!

Bit of black Hammerite smooth round the swingarm and suspension mounting points and job done.... now, the rear wheel is grim... don’t reckon it’s been cleaned in 30,000 miles minimum....can’t be arsed with the bearings out, powder coating route... so will try and freshen it up without it looking a dogs dinner!!!

Close inspection shows rear wheel bearings are shot..... Also left hand saddle bag support bracket has snapped.... Only the dirt holding it together....

Still puncture turned out to be a leaky valve and an hour today with soap/water/auto sol turned a manky rear wheel into something more respectable...

Rubbed down rusty frame parts and painted in part satin and part gloss hammerite... see what looks best when dry.... Then pick the right one...

Research tonight shows the world of HD bearings to be a complicated one... Think I'll go Timkin....it all looks a bit old school as they need to be packed with bearing grease....

More to follow.....

More turd polishing?

Twizzle - MikeP would be proud - but where are the pictures?

Not done anything to mine today - rode it to Woolworth's yesterday tho'! (yes, Woolies survives Down Under as one of the 2 largest supermarket chains)
