The stand was very crowded all sunday , GSA looked good but not so keen on the black frame which makes it look heavy + noticed they have totaly changed the side stand fitting for some reasion . I am sure it will generate a lot of extras to play with . Even the wife had a dood day picture taken with charlie & then whitham (keeps her happy).
Went on the bm & the parking & security was very good & no parking charge for a bike :D all in all agood day

NEC

:) Went to the NEC on Saturday and thought at the time that there were more people than last year MCN web site says Saturday attendance was up 25%. Me and the missus enjoyed the show she had her photo with Leon Haslam (nice guy) and I managed to get a new Arai £100 off. Waiting to see the new K1200RT which should be out soon I liked the look of the 1200GSA but its too tall for me.

The one thing I noticed was how many more 'government agencies' there were this time around.

The one that actually pissed me off quite a bit was the "safety camera" partnership stand with the wrecked smoking bike on it. Every where you looked the whole stand was plastered with propaganda about how excess speed causes all accidents.... bah. :tosser

Didnt seem particularly objective to me....

Yes, saw that one it only happened 2 mile away from my house @ vigellia so he said .what happend to stop look listen

Went to the NEC today, had a look at the 1200GSA...very nice in the flesh! :thumb

As for the rest of the show...well put it this way its the first year I've come away without buying a thing! :eek

Nothing really stood out and shouted bargin! I think those days are long gone! :(

I wondered around for 3 hrs and left thinking, did I see all of it?

In fact I'm looking after the kids tomorrow so I might go again just to make sure!

Well, I bought an Autocom (OK, there's big savings on them everywhere), a new Arai open faced lid (saving £60.00) and an Airhawk neoprene seat thingy (saving £30.00) plus the usual T shirts at bargin prices. It was worth the flight over........... :D

Went on Saturday, managed to get a space indoor parking though a bit of a queue for it.

Seemed a smaller show than last time I went in 2003.

No Aprilia, no Guzzi, all but Honda, BMW and Triumph had smaller stands I think.

Not so keen on the 1200GSA in the metal, think my plan will revert back to a lightweight one.

Liked the 1200RT and will take the all day test ride, bit too dear for a new one though.

Went today and fairly quiet. Where were all the girls? I usually go on Trade Day when they are everywhere! The BM stand seemed smaller than previous years and not a lot of bargains around generally. Still, the ticket was free so shouldn't compain!

Yes, I noticed the lack of totty at this years show. What was there was pretty nice, but quantity CAN be better than quality at times. :D

popped into the show today(monday), felt like i was ripped off, show seemed a lot smaller than last year, apart from looking at the new GSa(which the tec guys cant give an answer to "can i pop that lovely tank on my GS1200" there wasnt anything else that rocked the boat. only picked up one t-shirt, compared to last year when i spent a forture.lol.going to give this show a miss next year

Did anyone notice you lying on the floor for that last shot :thumb

I normally go on the Preview day and I'd say that last Saturday was quieter than last years preview day.

A definate lack of totty......came back with a half empty memory card in the camera:)

Waste of Time.. well almost

I went on the Sunday, not impressed at all!!

I did enjoy getting to see the GSA up close and personal, and the same with the HP2, but short of that, the show didn't offer a lot at all i didn't think.

As has already been discussed in this thread, the "bargain" stands were either full of shite, or not a bargain (Autocom is the notable exception) and it just seemed too commercial. Yes i know that sounds daft, but in years gone by, these shows were more like "gatherings" with genuine deals/bargains and info out there, this year seemed to be much more about "how can we prize some easy money out of you" and i thought it lacked the appeal / ambience of earlier shows.

Best deal at the show without doubt has to be the Autocom deals, they were outstanding, almost made me wish i didn't already have one!!! (Be interesting to see what the new models are going to be, apparently more modular/expandable, and smaller units)

Just my opinion ofcourse! :nono

Think next year i'll be considering a miss!! :(

Drove down yeterday (monday) with four workmates and we all had the same feeling as what has already been said. The car parks were getting busy when we arrived and the ticket queues were long enough but when we went in it was like tumbleweed city. I had expected it to be a bit quieter than at the weekend but there was just no atmosphere, apart from lunchtime when there was the question of sport bit.

I have to say I was dissapointed with the new GSA (and the tech guys on bmw). I went to have a good look at it with a view to buying it next year and although it is a very nice looking bike it doesn't jump out like the "old" GSA. Spending 5-6k to get a newer version just seems daft to me I wouldn't even call it an upgrade.

Still glad we went though as overall it was a good day out which is the important thing. Anyway roll an march and the scottish show when we are all squashed in or outside in the rain :thumb

Took the GS down on Sunday with the GF. First time I've had chance to take the bike. Bike park was great and indoor good job 'cos it was pissing it down. Put all our gear in the helmet park truck thingy and walked straight in. Got there at about 11am and stayed there till kicking out time at 6pm. This is the first year that we'd been there for so long.

Got to see loads of stuff, bought a new lid, some custom ear-plugs with autocom monitors in them :), some cloths, a knox cold killer top, some funky kriega helmet covers and tailpack.. the list goes on. Suffice to say I'm glad the 1200GS panniers are expandable.

Got to sit on loads of sweet bikes like the hp2 and the new 'old skool' dukes. Got a cracking deal on a shiny alarm from carol nash and they're fitting it on Thursday at work.. result.

All in all its about the best one I've been too. Did anyone else stay around to see Honda's mad robot walking up and down stairs and recognising when people wanted to shake its hand. Amazing. :bow

Must admit the 'eveything is a bargain' was gone but there were still some fantastic bargains to be had. I'll definately be taking the bike next year. The security in the bike park was fantastic. Even had 2 police bikers in there. Nice one NEC.

Yeah, the dukes were worth seeing - quite fancy one of those and at long last I managed to sit on an HP2 with my feet off the ground a couple of inches either side! Nothing else really rocked my boat and i was very disappointed with some of the detailing on the Adventure; the panniers and rack were pretty poor as were the engine bars. I didn't like the way the front mounting of the pannier frames clamped around the subframe tubes. A few rough miles and that'll be the paint gone then!

Didnt seem particularly objective to me....

Interestingly enough the following press release has been made by Safespeed today. I sshall be "discussing this" with the scmeras when I go to the show.

Safe Speed issued the following PR at 15:48 this afternoon:

PR250: Government report shows that speeding is a very minor crash cause

news: for immediate release

The recently released official report: "In depth study of Motorcycle
Accidents" states clearly that only 3.5% of crashes involved 'speeding'
(exceeding the speed limit). Of those only 62% involved the motorcyclist
speeding, so only 2.2% of motorcyclists were speeding when they crashed. This
contrasts with literally 100% of respondents who admitted speeding, with 58%
admitting speeding 'always' or 'frequently'.

Paul Smith, founder of the Safe Speed road safety campaign
(www.safespeed.org.uk) said: "Every single time we obtain or derive
information about the involvement of 'speeding' in crash contribution the
figures are absolutely tiny. While speeding is extremely commonplace, with 60%
of vehicles speeding at sample sites on most road types, we always find that
well over 95% of crashes do not involve speeding."

"One might conclude that 'speeding' is at least 10 times safer than 'not
speeding' based on these figures, but the truth is that speeding and crashes
take place largely at different places and different times. The reason is
simple. Drivers and riders tend to speed where the road is clear and tend to
slow down where there are hazards that may cause a crash. This behaviour is
vital to road safety."

"Once again these figures show how misguided government road safety policy is.
90% of the effort is directed towards 3% of the problem. Unfortunately this
means that 98% of crash causes are inadequately addressed - a sin of
omission that makes the roads far more dangerous than they should be."

"While motorcyclists take a great deal of criticism for being reckless
speeders, this report reveals the vital truth that almost all of them use
speed safely and responsibly almost all of the time."

It is extremely misleading when the DfT claim - as they have recently - that
about 30% of fatalities involve 'excessive speed' because:

* Most of the 30% DOES NOT involve exceeding a speed limit. 'Excessive speed'
in these terms includes both exceeding a speed limit AND travelling at an
inappropriate speed for the conditions. We know from sample data that 70% of
excessive speed crashes do not involve 'speeding'.

* A significant proportion of the remainder involves extremely reckless
behaviours that are alien to most of the people affected by speed enforcement.
Such behaviours include speeding drunks, speeding stolen vehicles, reckless
types racing on the highway and so on.

* Safe Speed estimates that less than 5% of all roads fatalities involve
otherwise responsible motorists travelling in excess of a speed limit.
