I am having more than just a casual look at an R100RS. :green gri

It's a 1981 model (so twin shock, flat seat etc).

I already have an R80G/S so I'm reasonably familiar with airheadery - but is there anything special I need to be aware of, in terms of the RS?

Thanks in advance.

Cosmetically

Look at the fairing particularly the internal mountings (easily broken made of cheese) and the mountings under the cylinders at the join.
A popular mod was to do away with the fairing rubbers where the forks go and to fit the forks with fork gaiters.

Mechanics the same as other airheads

Wheels bearings are taper rollers so can be a pain as few are shimmed correctly. Apart from that it's just a normal airhead with strange handlebars and a big fairing. The bars really do take some getting used to.

Heavy flywheel engine :drool

The RS's are lovely bikes but are about as much use as a lead balloon. They're high speed motorway bikes that are out of the depth on bendy roads and anything other than 90MPH+ strait line riding. Are you sure you really want one?

Good question!!

I remember Mum cutting a piece out of the Sunday Express when they were launched - a journo was describing it after a test ride. I still remember most of the content of that article. 0-60 in under 5 seconds... wow this thing was special! Then The Saint rode one... Then there was an article in Bike (I think) called 'a Weekend in St Trop' where another journo packed a spare pair of socks and took his squeeze to St Tropez for a weekend on a gold RS, just to see whether it could be done.

So the point is, I've basically yearned after one for 34 years. Even if I struggle to get on with it, I think it's an itch that needs scratching! :blast

Love the following comment:

"I think the brake pads have glazed over a bit, as the brakes could be better."

No, they are all like that Sir! :D

The R100RS has many fine features but braking ability is not one of them.

However, I love mine and will probably take it out for a blast today now that the sun is shining.:)

Went through the same thing and eventually bought an RSR -don't have it now. Sometimes the taste is not as good as the smell :D

Now the RT is similar but with a better riding position. Brilliant fairing and can still be " hustled".:D

Just so happens that I will be selling mine too. And I think that most who have seen it will agree its a beaut.:thumb

I know, I know. was getting round to putting it in the f/s sale section.

I will get some done tomorrow as my garage is looking a bit crowded again. I forgot to mention that I did go and get the A35 Van. have to say its a minter.
completely rebuilt and resprayed inside outside top and bottom. The underside is as clean as the top. I'll put some pics on of it as well:D

here are some pics of the RT. I will get around to putting it in the f/s section if no one here is interested.:rob
