They're pretty crash proof....we have very few problems with them in Morocco.
If it has OEM foglamps, take them off, because the plastic brackets that they are fitted with are made of mild cheddar and will fail on the first proper bumps you hit.
I believe that the side stand switch has been modified now, but we had a whole rash of failures when they got hit by stones when they first started coming out with us.....there is probably a guard available by now, but there wasn't for a long time....it's easy to bypass with just a Leatherman and a bit of common sense though, if it fails on the trails.
If you're doing anything with ruts or badly uneven surfaces, it may be worth considering taking the screen off as well...we've had a few of those broken as well.
Other than that, go and enjoy...they are surprisingly competent off road and you'll have a blast
Heidenau k60's,small screen,better head protection,folding gear lever ,loosen brake and clutch levers a tad,remove mirrors & top box,take a friend to help pick it and you up when it all goes tits up
Engine bars are useful - if you're covering a lot of loose stony ground they would be a necessity as just one can puncture your covers DAMHIK
Loosen or take off your mirrors. Saves replacing.
Other than that nuffink essential - just enjoy
