They're pretty crash proof....we have very few problems with them in Morocco.
If it has OEM foglamps, take them off, because the plastic brackets that they are fitted with are made of mild cheddar and will fail on the first proper bumps you hit.
I believe that the side stand switch has been modified now, but we had a whole rash of failures when they got hit by stones when they first started coming out with us.....there is probably a guard available by now, but there wasn't for a long time....it's easy to bypass with just a Leatherman and a bit of common sense though, if it fails on the trails.
If you're doing anything with ruts or badly uneven surfaces, it may be worth considering taking the screen off as well...we've had a few of those broken as well.
Other than that, go and enjoy...they are surprisingly competent off road and you'll have a blast
