What do you get to a full tank of fuel?

We have searched the threads for the answer but can't see if the question has been asked before, so.......

On a recent run last Saturday to Touratech we filled up having clocked 143 miles and still had five litres left in the tank! that has to be pretty damn good:D with 5 lires left I assume close to 200 miles on a full tank (without kicking the a**e out of accelerating) would be achieveable!

We ask the question as we are off to France and Spain later this month

That's almost 60 mpg giving about 220 miles from 17 liters. You can squese 17.5 in I had a 800 St and averaged 63 mpg and filled up at 240 miles. My current 1200 rt gives 53 mpg and 340 miles between filling tank is modified to 29 liters JJH

Always fill the bike up on the side-stand, never the center stand.

Cruising around 60-65mpg. You should easily get 230+ miles per tank (best so far 243miles). I use the second trip computer setting to gauge my true per-tank usage. If I have missed what you were asking or belittled you, I didn't mean to.

You'd have to be riding hard to get less than 200 miles out of a tank on the 800. 230 miles is about average for the way I ride. My best ever is 72 mpg, typical around 60-64 mpg and if ridden very hard, never less than 50 mpg. It's an amazingly economical bike for the performance.

Thanks everyone for the replies, very helpful - we will start to look for fuel at 180miles to err on the side of caution between fills, yes good advice re side stand refuelling.

Hard riding sees me fill up just under 200 miles, currently my trip odo is at 230 and I'm on reserve, that's thanks to a fairly leisurely ride to Wales last w/e.

I regularly get 215miles out of 16.5 ltrs.

Mix of town, A/B roads with a daily squirt of dual carriageway. :)

That 59ish mpg

going steady on the same routes Ive had roundabout the 70mpg mark with out to much restraint!!

I normally get up to 180 miles, before reserve light comes on, this gives me a usable range of about 210, according to the 'puter. I've not run out yet!

Last year in France, I was averaging, 67 mpg, it should have been less, but I had to keep slowing up to let the 1150 & 1200 GS's catch -up :D

Was inspired by a similar thread to change my riding style a little to improve mpg.

I commute in London each day, and was averaging around 44mpg. Admittedly riding with a very heavy hand.

I am now paying attention, riding smoothly, with low revs, trying to maximise mpg. Average for the last tank is 59mpg. I do not think I could get much more that with city riding.

So, ok, I have increased efficiency by roughly a 1/3, but I have to say it really is quite a boring way to ride!

800GS btw.

The truth is extreme & to make it moderate is a lie

We will now be invaded by the pipe&slippers crew...bemoaning waiting for f8's to fill up on ride-outs (only due to there larger tanks mind).

ps: I meant 60-65mph cruising speed

Guys I dont understand threads like this(maybe cos my second bike is an R6).Are you riding or stroking the throttle?Btw my average on F8 is 180mls until reserve.

I'll give you my view, my fuel gauge use to count down from 178miles, it would wait for what seemed ages then start descending.

Then after many services the fuel gauge was maxed at 115miles. It again takes ages to start counting down..my reserve light comes on at 36miles remaining. I have left it down to 1 mile before refilling & still can't quite fit 16litres of fuel in it. So it is calibrated above what the bikes fuel count is.

We like sharing how far you can get out of a f8 whilst cruising. Sure anyone can do a track day & use 16 litres of fuel in 130miles or less, averaging 110mph ;)

----------------

The brief version; wait till fuel light pops on..then ride the bike sensibly & you will not run out of fuel. Ride it like you have stolen it after the fuel light goes on & you won't be doing the remaining 30 odd miles.

I covered ~3k in the last 2 weeks the following was a good guideline
>80mph ~180 miles to 0 miles left on the gauge
Keeping within limits on urban roads ~240miles

Normally i get ~210/220 between fills depending on the frequency of petrol stations!

You'd have to be riding hard to get less than 200 miles out of a tank on the 800.

My reserve light came on this morning at 140 miles, I get between 30&35 miles on reserve.
I don't think I ride the bike that hard, but I do "make progress". I've not had the chance to take the bike for a longish ride few the last week our so do to work and other commitments; so short trips means the bikes running with more choke more often reducing mpg, not so much the riding style.
On a recent trip to touratec and back via the brecon beacons (a 210 mile trip) I filed up before I left and the reserve light never came on by the time I got home, similar riding style to normal but longer trip with more motorway = better mpg

Scarpro, that sounds about the same as the mileage I get for city commuting...good to see I'm not the only one getting these type of figures.

I get an average of 58mpg on mine, and always ride it with panniers and top-box on. Trip down the M1 at 75-85 yesterday still got 200 from the tank.

Only getting 140 to the tank seems very low, I even averaged 73 when punting about in the Alps! Maybe you only have a five speed box...

You mean theres more than five!
:blast

Tank range is fine if I ride the bike for more than the four n' half mile / ten minute commute to work; my average speed for this tank is only 19 mph which includes a return trip down the M32 five days a week:nenau
