What do you love or hate about the R Nine T ?

Okay, maybe I’ll change the back shock cause it does jar my back even over slight road imperfections, but that’ll probably be it.
I love the way the bike looks and performs, but the seating position is quite cramped for anything over 100 miles and it might not be a keeper. 🤔
I give my bikes at least 2 years to resolve compatibility issues, but that’s it.
I’ve had 3 GSs from the 1150 to present 1200 and always found the suspension adequate for my 70% riding. It does beg the question why they put such crap suspension in these though?!
Bar risers, comfort seat and peg lowers will sort your issues

Fork internals and rear shock can be bought for around £750
Just looked on Pier City for the Wilbers shock and fork internals - and they’re £1200.
This is using the Andreani (Unit Garage) fork cartridges and Wilbers shock.

YSS fork emulators for the front forks are around £100 and a simple diy job. Changes the push rod fork to a semi valved fork for very little money.
Did it on my Urban and it transformed the front end.
A decent rear shock can be had for around £450 new or fit a GS 1200 rear shock from the 04 to 10 DOHC bike ( slightly raises the rear end).
Cheap mods 👍

I’ve recently bought an R9T Scrambler and love it, but do find the ride a little rough over roads my GSA just glides over. I was thinking about getting the suspension setup properly for my weight and height, but do you think it’s a waste of time?
I don’t want to spend too much on the suspension as it’ll negate all the savings I made buying the bike 🤔
I’ve heard those guys at Knockhill are good:
I was happy with the improvement, so I felt it was money well spent.

Try Brook Suspension at Bradford

They’re Andreani main dealers (plus every other brand)

Marc will sort you out on price and they do a fitting and set up service or just fitting

Alternatively you can fit yourself

They’ve done a few R9T’s

I invested in solving the uncomfortable riding position with a Wunderlich seat, bar risers, peg lowering and a Unit Garage big screen. Combine with the suspension and some luggage, I reckon the farkles cost as much as the bike and it’s still not great from a comfort perspective. Looks great though…

Tbh, I never bought it for long distance, just jollies around Scotland mostly. The rear shock is dire though. I’ll probably do the cheap bar riser and lower peg mods too.
Although, after changing the shock to Wilbers it’ll probably amplify the crap forks too…………but I’ll see 😬
We all know things cost less if you do in stages and especially if you have a lousy memory like me!! 🤣🤣

I’ve decided on tackling the rear suspension first - to see if a new shock with the correct spring for my weight improves. There’s no adjustment on the Scrambler forks, but still think the root of my woes is from the shock.
Been looking on Pier City’s site and it would appear the Ohlins STX46 is around the same price as the Wilbers, but has height adjustment………..so why does everyone prefer the Wilbers??
I already put the Wunderlich 20mm bar risers on and definitely enjoy the improvement. Maybe the 1/2 inch on the seat height might help the knees too??
Any thoughts welcome. 👍

The longer shock won't make any difference to your knee comfort. Both seat and pegs are sprung weight and so will move in unison when the new shock is fitted. Only difference will be that you are positioned at a more forward angle as the rear of the bike is raised.

Ah okay. Would still the think Ohlins might be more sellable when I get rid of the bike though? They’re both around £600 🤔

Shock Factory are around £400 and very good.
+20mm on comfort seat and -20mm on Wunderlich pegs lows equals 40mm more room.

Can’t do Wunderlich pegs cause bike has those 719 rear sets. Seat is good idea though 👍
