2008 800gs used every day 40,000 k first thing in the morning its reluctant to turn the engine over put battery on charge it shows already fully charged does not show on the temp gauge as getting hot its not the temp as its 30 deg c here today nothing else other than zumo connected to can bus socket which has never caused a problem in the past needles to say its two months out of warranty would be grateful for any words of wisdom

Have you checked your radiator fan can spin?

i would check, in order:

that the battery is really charged. i wouldn't trust what the charger is telling you.

that the connection from the battery to the starter is good.

that the starter is not knackered.

i prefer battery at about 80 euros to starter motor at B M W prices i feel a pain starting to develop in the wallet area:

take the bike to bmw, ask can you swop a battery for one day, test it in the morning and voila !
i think its the battery.

or if you have a fellow 800 rider nearby do a batt swop.

dont think its the starter if its only the first turn of the day.

Its difficult to actually check a battery, it can show 12v+ yet still not supply enough current to turn a cold engine. They can fail at any time and often with no warning. My wifes battery failed half way through the first day of a holiday, no previous symptoms except a strange stuttering on the electronic tacho needle.
Its a reasonably cheap thing to try and at 24 months about ready for a replacement.
The temp gauge not working is odd, but who can guess what happens to the Canbus system when the volt drop below 12v.

New battery fitted today 48 euros plus iva from moto mike spares benissa .Will keep fingers crosed for tomorrow morning ;by the way another 30 degree day wall to wall sunshine here. Thanks for your help:
