what does "Autorouting" do in mapsource?

And do I need to include autorouting data on my quest? seems to take up a lot of space.

If you want 'turn by turn' instructions then, yes, you need to include the auto-routing data.

If you are happy with a straight line route ('home is 27.2 miles north of here') then you do not need it.

The visual data displayed on the screen will be the same.
