I just put a new battery on my 05 1200. Now when the bike boots up, on the screen it reads "DWA" with a 1/2 charged "AA battery" icon. This appears for a couple of seconds and than disappears.

I was wondering what is DWA?

Thanks

Rick

"1993, 1994 and 1995 DWA-4 alarms came from the factory
with the system set so it would only turn the alarm
off with the key. If the battery died, the system
would not turn off unless a dealer technician was
involved. I can't count the times I came to peoples
businesses and homes to change the option from remote
only to door lock disarm or transmitter disarm. We
never charged the customer for this service while
under warranty. It amazes me that your car went
completely through the 4-50 warranty period without
having this changed over. Must have been trouble free.
Call around for a dealer in your area that will do
this changeover as a courtesy to gain your business.
It only takes 5 min. to complete and we used is as a
gesture of goodwill all the time. It takes longer to
get a radio code than reprogram your DWA-4 alarm."

From Google, something to do with low battery and alarm enabling/disabling.

If it isn't your alarm fob battery, it could be the internal back-up battery within the alarm module itself ( a dealer job to replace).

2 CR123A lithium batteries in the alarm module, you can get to it easy enough. It is under the plastic which is under the rear seat. Loads of torx to open. They are charged by the bike electric, but I got the same message on the screen after 2 years or so, changed them and no more message.
Be careful if you have to take off the pannier mushroom bolts, make sure to set them back correctly and to loctite them.

Thanks Bin, I was told they are a dealer job, glad they can be done by the owner.
I think mine are low, my alarm transponder fob struggles to set the alarm despite new batteries so I wonder if the receiver itself is low on power.

If i recall, the DWA msg only appears at the end of the self-test so if you turn the key and then hit the go-button, you might never see it! Turn key, let it go to end of selftest and watch what happens.
The reprom says to disconnect the battery before starting the job, probably forgot that but no harm to do it.

+1 to what Bin Ridin says. I was surprised by the amount of dismantling required, but certainly not difficult. I didn't remove the mushroom bolts, but I think it would have been easier if I had. I could only get CR123 batteries (without the 'A') - a bit of Googling suggests that that is not a problem.
