As you all know that my brand new GS was stolen end of Jan.

Yesterday I had an "interview" with the claims validator of my bike insurance.

And yesterday evening I received an email from the same person stating "your claim has been validated and has now been passed on to the total loss department"

What do you think it means???

thanks

Seems they accept the facts supplied and your case is being passed on to the valuation department for processing

Yes it means that they will accept your claim and make a payment to you as your bike will be written off as a total loss This department will calculate how much to offer you. It should be sufficient for you to purchase a like for like replacement but don't take this for granted. Best advise is for you to now research prices so you can be sure their offer is reasonable and will enable you to get similar again. If you get an unrealistic low offer then send them three examples that you find which show that they are not being reasonable. Generally the first offer from most insurers will be on the low side and you'll need to prove why their figure if low. Generally never accept first offer. Best of luck as the whole process can be a pita

If the bike was brand new (or at least less than 6 months old), most insurance companies will replace with another brand new bike.:thumb

The bike was 2 weeks old with 150 miles on the clock...:(:(

I'd be amazed if they didn't replace with another brand new bike in that case. Did it have many extras?

The whole raison d'être of insurance is to put you back into the position you were before your claim.

Accept nothing less as that is what you pay premiums for.

Guy I work with had his car written off by a car that jumped the lights- he told the insurance company to cut the crap and give him the best offer rather than pratting about with low offers. It worked, he got top dollar. They try it on with paying out, same as they try it on with premiums.

The insurance called. Wanted to offer me £10,000. When I refused they asked me how much am I looking for it. ☹️

That's a bit cheeky for a 2 week old bike. It's a case of doing some research and provide the insurers with similar age/spec bikes for sale, and tell them that's what you want (less the excess on the policy). Have a search around the BMW dealers for a pre-registering new bike maybe?
Did you have any gap insurance?

I don't have a gap insurance but that's a different thing altogether as the insurance should not ask me if I have gap insurance. As some body on this forum said it's like an insurance policy for an insurance. And the bike is only 2 weeks old. I said I am looking for what I paid. And despite them having the paperwork that ask me how much I paid!!!!!

I told them that for a 9 month old bike which has done 1700 miles at a dealer is £14,995. So let's see what happens 😔😔😔

They're trying it on. Tell them to go fuck themselves.

I agree with the gentleman above

You paid a premium based on the value. If they don't want to pay up the full value ask them to supply with another new bike :thumby:

Take a look at the ABI link below where it references stolen vehicles

https://www.abi.org.uk/Insurance-an...-insurance/Written-off-or-total-loss-vehicles

You have to play hard ball, tell your insurance company you're in touch with ombudsman and will complain if a suitable number is not agreed quickly

You have a very strong case due to the fact the bike was literally only a couple of weeks old

Good luck and don't give in!

Why not ask your nice local motorrrad dealer for a quote for replacement. That way, when you deal with them again, you can email it over.

Google ICOBS, it is very interesting. It relates to treating customers fairly.
